DALY: She'll be joined by returning coaches three-time Grammy Award winner Adam Levine.
Hey, Adam, who do you think she's gonna pick as her coach? Uhh Aah! Kelly Clarkson! Last season's winning coach, with 25 #1 hits, Blake Shelton.
This is Kelly Clarkson, one of the greatest vocalists, - I love you.
- greatest people I have ever met.
DALY: And 15-time Grammy Award-winner and Season 12 champion coach Alicia Keys.
I am married, but I'm telling you what, if I liked women, I'd like Alicia.
ALICIA: I wanted to come back as a coach because I love discovering so many people with such interesting stories and voices of all kinds.
And this season, the talent looks to be the best ever.
DALY: But this season, there's a big game changer.
I want you to see something.
- The chair is new - Sleek.
and there's a Block button.
It's called The Block.
Each coach can now block one of their rival coaches from getting an artist.
I feel like y'all invented that 'cause I'm coming and you're afraid, so you have to, like, block me.
Your love is like a see saw - Hey, your love - DALY: But our coaches must choose wisely - Block?! - Block! DALY: because they only get one chance to make it pay off.
- I got so blocked.
- Yes! I used my one block 'cause I love you! ADAM: I just want you to know, the second I heard you sing, if I could block everybody, I would have.
RAYSHUN: When a coach uses that block, it's the ultimate compliment because that's when you know they really want you.
You turned at the very last second.
- No, duh, duh.
Duh, duh, duh.
- I have Welcome to my world of pain.
- Whoo-hoo-hoo! - Whoo! DALY: Prepare yourself, America.
The talent this season will have our coaches feeling more I know this is embarrassing.
I'm crying.
I have to say thank you for writing that song.
- Oh, my God! - I love you! - and going wilder - Yeah! - Yeah! - Whoa! - What?! - What is happening? DALY: than ever before.
Whoo! Ha ha! DALY: to get the artists they want.
That just happened! The most exciting season of "The Voice" starts right now.
Here it goes.
We're about to start.
This is your first voice.
My first one.
It's my first one.
- Let's go.
- I'm gonna turn so hard.
- Are you nervous? - I'm, like, excited nervous.
- DALY: While our coaches get settled - [Laughs.]
let's meet the first artist of the night.
Lord, I done unsnapped my bracelet.
Hold on.
These pants are super tight.
What's more rock 'n' roll than tight pants? I'm a lonely boy I'm a lonely boy My name is Britton Buchanan.
I'm 17 years old.
Just recently, somebody told me I look like a 1990s Matt Damon.
It's very subjective, but okay.
I like to have fun, whatever that means.
I'm from Sanford, North Carolina.
It's not small enough for everybody to know everybody, but we at least know of everybody, so you don't do anything stupid 'cause everybody's gonna know.
We have a very dry sense of humor.
She has all these videos of me getting scared.
- What is that?! - Oh! Quit! - Oh! - Aah! - Ow! - Mom, quit! I don't think they're as funny as everybody else thinks they are.
He was not an athlete.
Britton would stay in the outfield and pick flowers.
I figured then this was not gonna work.
But we bought him a $60 guitar, and then one day, it just clicked.
When I was 13, I joined a classic rock cover band.
Music was like freedom where I can be different than everybody else.
I'm just so proud of what he's able to do and where he's come, and I want the world to see the kind of person that he is.
Getting a coach would be this enormous blessing.
I know what it feels like to not fit in.
A chair turn would be kind of, like, "Hey, you're invited to the party.
" So that would be the first party I've ever been to.
[Chuckles.]
True story.
Whoo! Gonna nail it! Trouble Trouble, trouble, trouble, trouble Trouble been doggin' my soul since the day I was born Worry Oh Worry, worry, worry, worry, worry Worry just will not seem to leave my mind alone I've been saved by a woman Yeah! Congratulations.
I've been saved by a woman Ooh, she won't let me go Ooh, she won't let me go No, no Ooh, ooh, ooh She good to me now She give me love and affection And I love her Yes, I love her And I love her And I love her [Cheers and applause.]
ALICIA: Oh! For real? That right there?! Ooh! Oh, snap! They blocked Adam, so he he's out of it.
I think Blake did.
Not me.
Well, I'm out.
Sorry, man.
Hey, you were awesome, but now I'm out 'cause Blake blocked me.
I didn't That was not me.
I didn't block you.
- What's your name? - My name's Britton Buchanan.
I'm 17, and I'm from Sanford, North Carolina.
ALICIA: Wow, man.
Well, I'm gonna tell you something.
They're afraid of me, Britton.
[Laughter.]
They are very afraid of you.
I want honesty from Blake.
- I want Blake to tell me - I d I did not.
Of course you did.
It's a brand-new rule.
Just Just tell the truth for once in your life.
What are you talking about? By the way, you're a great singer, but Academy Award winner you are not.
- Um - I didn't.
So listen, Britton, I'm a huge fan.
You did "I Love L.
A.
" - with Randy Newman a couple years ago.
- I did.
And I watch that video like 80 times every week, and it's freakin' awesome, so - Ooh.
- Oh, and you got blocked.
He blocked the right person.
Aw, man, I got so blocked.
But look, I think 100%, you got to go with Alicia Keys - because - Oh, my God.
I am such a fan of hers.
I'm literally nervous that I'm sitting next to her right now, - because I love her so much.
- She is pretty cool.
ALICIA: Britton, your voice has so much honesty in it, and there was something so genuine about you.
- Thank you.
- I go on emotion.
I feel like that's what makes music real, and I'd love to help you really bring that out for people to be moved.
Damn, you're good.
You're good.
- Thank you.
I appreciate it.
- You're welcome.
[Applause.]
Britton, I just want to talk to you for a minute, buddy.
- All right, you go ahead.
- You might as well just not.
- I mean - He always uses the word "buddy.
" I am getting kicked around.
I'm getting blamed for stuff.
- So, listen.
You are so intense.
- Thank you.
It's almost like you're angry at the song, playing that guitar with such strength.
When I heard you singing, with a little bit of a gravelly, raspy tone to it and a little bit of country a little bit.
You made my mom happy right there.
Whoo! - Okay, I did block Adam - Yes, and by and the reason I blocked Adam is 'cause I want you on my damn team.
Wait.
Hold on, hold on.
- I got to say one thing.
- That's the truth, man.
I'm sorry.
Everybody, Blake Shelton actually did block me.
[Audience cheers, boos.]
Boo! That was good! - You're a tremendously great liar.
- Thank you.
You should be an actor.
[Laughter.]
I had no idea.
You know what, though? He gets one block, I'm just saying, and he chose you.
I only get to use that one time - this entire season.
- Okay.
- So if you pick Alicia, - One block.
- it's gonna be so funny, man.
- That's how badly I want you on my team.
I'm having a good time up here, so - By the way, I love "Austin.
" - Thank you.
- "Austin's" good.
- That's a great song.
Thank you, buddy.
Hey, Britton.
You know how I feel.
I want to be on Alicia's team.
Yeah, Britton! Who do you pick as your coach, man? - [Dramatic music plays.]
- Okay.
Come on, Britton! [Audience shouting.]
Okay, all right, all right.
I'm so nervous.
I pick Alicia! - One foot in front of the other - Yeah! Yes, Britton! That's my man! That's my man right there.
[Grunting.]
- Come on, man.
- Oh, yeah! Britton was fantastic.
Something about him was very pure and very genuine.
I'm telling you, this guitar, that voice, that soul, me and you? I got my first artist, y'all.
I did win the last time I was here, and I'm looking to win again.
ALICIA: Bye, Blake! Congratulations, brother.
- Hey, thank you.
- I'm happy for you.
The Block is an absolute game changer.
I threw my block out there to keep Adam from getting that guy.
And even though I didn't get him, neither did Adam.
I wasn't expecting that to happen.
That was neat.
The first block of the season that's crazy.
- Whoo! - Congratulations.
- Thank you.
- I went with Alicia because I love her music, I love her voice, and I think that she could really push me in a cool direction.
- The good news is you're out of blocks! - Well And you didn't get the dude, which is even better.
[Laughter.]
Oh, my gosh.
You're a good liar.
Thank you.
I work on it.
Ooh! Whoa, Lord.
You should warn a girl.
[Laughs.]
Thank you, Blake.
It worked out for me.
[Laughs.]
He's 17.
That's gonna be good vibes.
BLAKE: You haven't hit your button yet.
It's my first time.
Quit shaming me.
I k I knew that you were gonna blow this.
- Oh, my God.
I hate you! - [Laughs.]
I knew it.
I knew it.
- DALY: Coming up, more - Oh, see - incredible performances - Beneath your perfect tonight Thank God for you! - [Vocalizing.]
- Whoo! Your love is like a see saw People Yeah! DALY: And Kelly shows the other coaches You turned at the very last second, sir.
DALY: she came to win.
I can win with you - Oh, my God.
- Yeah! This is "The Voice" DALY: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
It seems as though Blake used his block - on me.
- He did.
Well, the fun part was that Adam didn't even know.
I just want to talk about how good of a liar you are.
- 'Cause that was pretty outstanding.
- Thank you.
- You know what? Thank you.
I work hard - And by that, I mean scary.
- I work hard on my lying.
- [Laughs.]
You're a borderline sociopath.
- Excellent work.
- [Laughs.]
DALY: Let's meet the next artist.
- Marker.
- [Clapboard clacks.]
- Hey, could I try that? - Sure.
- [Clacks.]
- Action! [Giggles.]
I'm Brynn Cartelli, I'm 14 years old, and I'm from Longmeadow, Massachusetts.
When I was 4 years old, my mom showed me the song "Breakaway" by Kelly Clarkson.
Grew up in a small town And when the rain would fall down I really connected with that, so from then on, I just knew I want to keep going with this.
After that, my family got me into playing piano, and I started writing my own songs.
I just started high school.
So I go to school all day.
I play field hockey or lacrosse for hours after school, and then I come home and fit music somewhere because I know without it, I definitely don't have a good day.
I am so proud of Brynn.
Um She works so hard at everything she does.
For Brynn to have this opportunity at 14 years old is truly amazing.
And I think she's gonna do great.
'Cause I'm so young and living in a small town, it's very difficult to find big venues to sing at.
I play at school events, town events, and other things like that.
A coach can help me be something more than I ever thought I could be.
For my blind, I will be singing "Beneath Your Beautiful.
" This song is about what is inside instead of what is on the outside.
This is perfect because when I'm stepping on the stage, they're not going to be seeing me, the 14-year-old.
They're gonna be hearing my soul in my song.
Let's go, Brynn! KELLY: Here we go.
I want to pick a good team! But you're letting all the good ones go over and over.
It was one! She's so beautiful.
You tell all the boys no Makes you feel good, yeah I know you're out of my league But that won't scare me away Oh, no Would you let me see beneath your beautiful? Would you let me see beneath your perfect? Take it off now, boy, take it off now, boy I wanna see inside Would you let me See beneath your beautiful tonight? Yeah! [Cheering.]
Yeah! I'm gonna climb on top your ivory tower I'll hold your hand I just wanna know - Yes! - Would you let me See beneath your beautiful? Would you let me Oh, see beneath your perfect tonight? 'Cause I want to see inside Would you let me see beneath your beautiful tonight? No! No! What?! - What?! - You're dang right! [Cheering.]
[Applause.]
He did that to mess with me! - Oh! - That just happened.
You're my absolute first person - I've ever turned for.
- Oh, my gosh.
- Just saying.
- That's so amazing.
ALICIA: Nice.
I love your voice.
I think you're beautiful.
I like that it could be a pop thing.
It could be a singer/songwriter.
It could be country.
It could be You have a lot of different elements to your voice.
And I feel like you should sing songs to showcase that so you don't get compared to people in the genre you're maybe wanting to go in.
Thank you so much.
- I can win with you - Oh, my God.
You turned at the very last second, sir! It doesn't matter where it starts.
It matters where it ends.
By the way, what is your name, and where are you from? My name is Brynn Cartelli, - I'm 14 years old - What?! - and I'm from Longmeadow, Massachusetts.
- 14? - Nice.
Nice.
- [Applause.]
I've been a huge fan of you, Kelly, - since I was like 4 years old.
- Yes! But, Blake, I love you, too.
- I'm a huge fan of country.
- No, come back! No, come back! [Laughs.]
- Oh, my gosh.
- 14.
That's crazy.
You sound like a 36-year-old who's been through it.
It's crazy that someone can feel so much.
Oh, thank you.
You have such a beautiful voice.
How long have you been singing? Since I was, like, in the crib.
- Instead of waking up crying, - Really? - I would wake up singing.
- Yes.
- That's what my parents would always say.
- Aww.
- I can tell.
- It's kind of exciting that Blake turned 'cause, you know, he's Blake, and he's got dimples.
- [Laughter.]
- Dimples? But if Kelly didn't get you, there's something wrong with the world.
Have you seen this show before? Have you watched "The Voice"? I've been watching the show since I was really little.
While she was listening to my music.
- I was, yeah.
At the same time.
- [Laughter.]
Then you know that it is Adam's mission to try to derail me every time I hit my button for an artist.
Wait a minute.
Time-out.
You do, uh, the same thing.
That's why we're us.
- Don't you dare put this on me.
- [Laughter.]
- I feel like Mom and Dad are fighting.
- [Laughs.]
Well, if you have watched, then you know that I have had more success with young females on this show than everyone else combined.
And Kelly has absolutely no experience on this show whatsoever.
Ooh.
I mean, I mean, I mean, son.
I had enough experience that he had me mentor his team on the second season! Oh! Whoo! I'm just saying.
He had to phone a friend.
[Laughter.]
She's also the most successful person - ever to come off of a show like this.
- That's true.
And I love you, and I turned first.
Brynn, who do you pick as your coach? Oh, gosh.
Um I love you both so much.
I love all four of you.
I pick Kelly.
Yes! Whoo! - I got a jersey! - Oh, my gosh! KELLY: I love that she is 14 years old.
It's the 14th season.
I'm wearing my Season 14 jersey.
- Can't help you now.
- I'm sorry! I can't help you now.
KELLY: and the fact that she's an actual fan.
I really couldn't have planned a more perfect first person for me to pick on "The Voice.
" Victory.
Victory.
You are going to destroy that young girl's - hopes and dreams.
- I am going to be the best strategical partner.
What was the word? - Strategical.
- Strategical.
Mm-hmm.
I'm smart as well as hot.
[Laughter.]
This is "The Voice" DALY: Welcome back to the blind auditions at Universal Studios Hollywood.
I told her she needs to come at me harder.
- Oh, you could destroy him.
- I d I did.
- Why you being a wuss? - I did bring up the whole, like, "I was good enough to bring back as your mentor.
" - That was good.
- I'm not mean.
But being mean to him isn't actually being mean.
Somehow, the worse I treat him, the more people think we're friends.
[Laughter.]
DALY: While the coaches get settled, let's meet the next artist.
RAYSHUN: There was a time when I thought that I was not gonna wake up the next day Oh, here we go.
Here we go.
Here we go.
and here I am now on Season 14 of "The Voice.
" I'm Rayshun LaMarr, I'm 33 years old, and I'm from Fort Washington, Maryland.
I love to sing, and I love to dance.
I'm part of a band called Sound Connection.
We do corporate events.
We do weddings.
We travel around the world.
Every time I step on stage with them, I light up.
Right as things started to really pick up for me and the band something went totally wrong.
One day, I just felt really, really weak.
I was really cold, but I was sweating at the same time.
And I said, "I need to go to the hospital.
" I get there, and I blacked out.
[Sniffles.]
And I wake back up, and I see my mom, at, like, the foot of the bed.
And I overheard the doctors telling my mom, you know, "You got to call your immediate family 'cause we don't know if he's gonna make it.
" For a mother to see their child laying in the hospital hooked up to all these machines, that was really a hard time for us.
I was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer.
I went through blood transfusions.
I had platelet transfusions and chemotherapy.
I lost my voice.
I lost my hearing in one ear.
During that time, all I had really was my faith and my music.
For me to go from being half-dead to being on "The Voice," I've never felt more alive than that.
How's your health right now? How do you feel? Oh, man.
I am cancer-free! - I'm so glad you're all right.
- Thank you.
What was the world of music in your life at that point? It was a healer.
It energized me.
It It was It was my passion.
I regained my hearing about 10 months into my chemo treatment.
Gradually, my voice started to come back.
[Vocalizing.]
When I sing now, I feel like people could actually feel me versus just hearing me.
I'll be singing "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey.
When I was in intensive care, I played this song over and over again.
This song is the epitome of my life.
[Voice breaking.]
Keep believing in yourself.
Keep believing in great things, and things will happen.
[Sighs.]
Just a small town girl Livin' in a lonely world She took the midnight train goin' anywhere - A singer in a smoky room - [Cheering.]
I smell the wine and cheap perfume For a smile, they can share the night It goes on and on On and on Strangers waiting Up and down the boulevard Their shadows searching in the night Don't stop believin' Just hold on to that feeling Streetlights People, ohhhhh Don't stop believin' Hold on to that feeling People, ohhhhhhh [Cheers and applause.]
Wow! [Cheering.]
I'm gonna be straight up with you.
99.
9% of the time, we say, "Man, I can't believe that was a white dude.
" - [Laughter.]
- ALICIA: That is true.
That is true.
This might be the first time in the history of the show, I'm like, - "It's a black dude.
I can't believe it.
" - Yes.
- That has never happened before.
- Yeah, that is true.
It's, like, unprecedented that that happened.
Wow.
What?! You were singing with so much joy.
You just had so much powerful pleasure while he - Right? - Yes.
- Like, you were so happy to be singing.
- Seeing it Seeing it was different.
Can we find out what your name is? I'm Rayshun LaMarr.
I'm 33, and I'm from Fort Washington, Maryland.
- [Cheers and applause.]
- Wow.
He looks like he's still singing the song.
I know! He's so happy! Ahh He's so happy.
It's so great.
I love it.
I already see the hashtags.
Like #RayshunNation.
This is gonna be the greatest thing ever.
You got this.
This sheer bliss that you sing with is really infectious.
You're also an interesting dude because I see both of us in you.
Actually, I do, too, man.
Maybe we should co-coach.
I don't know.
Yeah, could we both have you? I would love that! [Laughter.]
It is awesome when you turn around, and you see someone living what they're singing.
Thank you.
This song means so much because Ahh! Five years ago, I almost died, man.
- I had cancer.
- Oh, my God.
Oh, thank you, Jesus.
While in ICU, I used to play that song, and it used to, like I'm gonna cry.
Oh, no.
It used to give me so much hope and energy.
- And, like, I just said - Wow.
[Cheers and applause.]
ALICIA: Wow.
That's amazing.
I'm so mad I didn't turn around.
I love you.
[Laughter.]
Besides making it onto "The Voice," man, congratulations - on making it through cancer.
- ALICIA: Yeah.
- Thank you, man.
- [Cheers and applause.]
You have earned this moment.
You chose the song that helped you through what you went through That's what makes you special.
- Very true.
- You say "Don't Stop Believin'"? I'm gonna start believing right now that I'm just your coach.
- Nice.
- And that's what's happening.
- I like that.
- Oh, that was good.
- Nice play.
- That was good.
That was good.
ALICIA: Okay, okay.
All right.
- Um - Come on, Alicia.
As your coach, it is important not only to have someone that matches the energy - [Trilling.]
- [Laughter.]
but also somebody who will be critical when it's necessary because there were certain things that could have been a little bit better.
- Yeah, I agree.
- That's what I'm about, helping somebody really tap into that next thing that's gonna make them even better.
- Let's just do it right now.
- [Laughter.]
- Let's just - He wouldn't be able to go right now if I hadn't turned around, as well.
- Sadly for me, there's you.
- [Laughter.]
That is Alicia Keys, man! - [Cheers and applause.]
- I mean, are you kidding me?! - Ahh! - I believe this is the place that you've been meant to come to right now.
Your story is very, very inspiring.
And we need somebody who will not let anything stop them.
You are the living embodiment of that, and it makes me all the more just dedicated to helping your story come to life.
Adam, you just lost from that.
I'm just gonna say.
- Oh, no, no, no, no.
- I want to be on her team.
- I'm, like, I could be great with Alicia.
- Young Kelly, you're new.
So is he, and I'd pick her after that.
I'm just saying.
He's a great coach, but that was really good.
Yes, Kelly! [Laughs.]
I'm ready for my second consecutive win with you.
- Oh! Whoa! - That's what I'm ready for.
Technically not consecutive, but we don't need to get into the minutia.
Oh, well, whatever.
You know what I mean.
- Oh, she got up! - [Laughter.]
[Cheers and applause.]
- Super proud of you.
- Thank you.
This is a beautiful moment.
I'm really excited for you.
- All right.
- Sit down.
[Laughter.]
Don't tell me what to do.
- I don't know - Look at how she looks! [Laughter.]
I know I lost already, but let me tell you about me, Rayshun.
- Let me tell you about me.
- Oh, all right.
- Go ahead.
- There is probably a 0.
1, maybe even if you could calculate a lesser number That's probably where I stand right now, okay? But I'm the guy who's never gonna stop to make sure that you get as far as humanly possible on this show.
I'm the guy.
[Cheers and applause.]
Whoo! All right, Rayshun.
Who you gonna pick? - [Dramatic music plays.]
- Ahh! [Laughs.]
Just come right here.
Come right here.
Don't worry about him.
Please.
Oh, I love you both.
I really do! Ahh! [Audience shouting.]
We.
We.
I pick Adam! [Cheers and applause.]
What?! ADAM: Rayshun it's always fun when you hear someone sing with so much passion and fire, and beating out Alicia Keys for somebody is brutal.
I was afraid, but, hey, worked it out.
I knew he shouldn't have got the last word! I was a little sad about the Rayshun moment.
I felt like I had that one.
Perhaps that should show me you don't you know, it's not over till it's over.
[Laughs.]
I am shocked that you chose me.
- I can't believe it.
- You spoke right here.
If you're a coach, I want you to tell me how how I can be better, and I think that did it for me.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you, brother.
I appreciate you, man.
Thank you so much! I am so excited to work with you, man.
- Thank you! - Whoo! [Cheering.]
DALY: Put yourself in our coaches' chairs.
Get the "Voice" official app.
Play along and build your own "Voice" team.
This is "The Voice" DALY: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
Hey.
What's up? [Laughter.]
I'm just picking my team.
DALY: While our coaches get ready, let's meet the next artist.
[Organ music plays.]
Growing up in a Pentecostal household, you went to church.
You went to school.
You went to church.
You went to choir rehearsal, back to church.
Literally school, church, school, church.
[Laughs.]
My name is Kyla Jade, I'm 33 years old, and I'm currently living in Nashville, Tennessee.
Ooh I worked most of my career as background or session singer.
I have sang for Carrie Underwood.
Wynonna Judd was my very first tour.
It was a good little ride.
But around the time I turned 30, my mom was having a series of seizures.
My mother is my rock.
So, music had to be put on the back burner.
Kyla stayed with me, doing all of the things that I could not do for myself.
- I love you, Mommy.
- I love you.
Okay.
After my mom fully recovered, I got a text message from a friend of mine who was like, "Can you audition for Jennifer Hudson?" Sure, I will.
I have literally been with her for three years.
We have done Australia, Europe, and then we did Season 12 finale of "The Voice.
" Behind Jen, you see the chairs, and you're, like, "This is really cool.
" What song are you singing for us? I'm doing "See Saw" by Aretha Franklin.
Something tells me you're gonna cover it just fine.
- [Laughs.]
I hope so.
- Listen, you got a lot of support here.
- Absolutely.
- But I got one more here for you.
Kyla, congratulations on your blind audition.
I am so happy to see you pursuing your dreams and letting the world hear your beautiful gift.
And I will be cheering you on, girl.
You know I am.
[Smooches.]
Love you.
Good luck.
I love you.
I would be honored to work with any of these coaches.
I think Kelly will connect immediately to the song that I'm singing because she herself auditioned with an Aretha Franklin song on the show that she did.
I'm gonna get it.
Whoop! KYLA: I am very comfortable in the background, and so for me to not be there gives me complete anxiety, but this is my time to take center stage.
Sometimes you love me Like a good man oughta Sometimes you hurt me so bad That my tears run like water Ya get me out Not before your friends Then ya disown me, baby Until we're alone again - Yeah! - Hey! Your love is like a see saw Your love is like a see saw, baby Your love is like a see saw Going up, down, all around Just like a see saw, baby Yeah When you kiss and I like it And I ask you to kiss me again When I reach for you, you jump clean outta sight Ya change just like the wind That ain't right That ain't right That ain't right - That ain't right - Whoo! - Your love is like a see saw, hey - Wow! Your love is like a see saw, baby Your love is like a see saw Going up, down, and all around - No! What are you doing?! - Yes! Yeah [Cheers and applause.]
Thank God.
- We got two.
Whoo! - Yes.
Whoo! - What is wrong with you?! - I love that song.
I love her.
You don't even know her.
- What do you mean, you love her? - I know, but I love her voice.
What's your name? My name is Kyla Jade.
I'm 33.
I live in Nashville.
- All right.
- Nashville! I think you're amazing.
That was real good.
Those notes that you were hitting, the flawless, easy way that you were doing it, it's so spectacular.
- Thank you so much.
- I appreciate it.
I'm so happy for you.
Yes! Thank you.
[Applause.]
I want to hear what you have to say for yourself - Well, no.
- for for cutting me out of this.
- No, the reason why I have - No, duh, duh.
Duh, duh, duh.
[Laughter.]
First of all, I love that song.
Aretha Franklin is one of the reasons that made me be a signer.
I love your hair.
I love your look.
- Yes.
- I love everything about you.
I think every part of it is just sassy and confident and boss and just so good.
- And I love those kinda songs.
- [Laughter.]
I know Blake has won "a lot on the show," and I'm the rookie, but I'm just saying, I have won a competition, so [Cheers and applause.]
So, now he's gonna be charming, but I'm telling you, I'm the best pick out of this situation.
I'm just gonna say.
[Cheers and applause.]
Go ahead.
[Laughter.]
- Whew! - Oh, my God.
- Hi, Kyla.
- Hello.
I want you on my team so bad.
By the way, what are you doing in Nashville? I've been singing professionally background.
Who you singing with? What are you doing? I actually sing background for Jennifer Hudson.
- Oh.
- No kidding.
I was on this stage doo-wopping behind her.
- Yes! - [Cheers and applause.]
Hopefully, she said something good about me.
Uh, damn it.
What do I say? No, wait.
I do have something to say.
My girls that sing with me, I have them step out and do their own stuff.
- I think that's spectacular - Thank you.
that you're stepping out.
I don't know if anybody saw the "20 Feet from Stardom," but these Oh, my God.
But these I'm just saying, it's a beautiful thing - because - That's true.
KELLY: a lot of times, you don't get to hear A lot of times, you don't get to hear the people in the back.
[Laughter.]
Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry.
Hurry, hurry.
[Exhales deeply.]
[Laughter.]
Pretend like I didn't get rudely interrupted.
No, you said you didn't know - what to say.
I was - [Mocking.]
Kids! The first time I ever won this show was with Alicia Keys' back-up singer, Jermaine Paul.
That is true.
- Oh, Lord.
- Kyla, let's do this thing.
Let's win the show.
Let's win "The Voice.
" Come on, Kyla! All right, Kyla.
Who do you pick as your coach? Kyla! Come on! [Audience shouting.]
I am kindred with Kelly because we share Aretha Franklin.
Yes.
But the first person to ever give me an opportunity was Wynonna Judd, so I have to go with Blake.
- Hey, girl, got that million dollar kiss - What?! Whoo! - Know just what to do with it - [Cheers and applause.]
[Laughs.]
Whoa! Kyla is the greatest shock and gift to me of Season 14.
- You're incredible.
- Thank you.
I promise you, Kyla.
You're not gonna regret this.
- I love Wynonna! - I love you, too.
Kyla should be on my team.
Like, I'm so confused.
That just happened! I didn't honestly think I was gonna fight Blake that hard for Kyla, but I-I was real wrong.
[Laughs.]
Does anybody want one of these? [Cheers and applause.]
DALY: Yeah! Money, money, money, money Hey, you want me to throw that shirt out to the fans - Give Give me my - since you don't have anybody - to give it to? - No, I need it.
People are gonna pick me.
I love Wynonna Judd.
- Why is Wynonna giving you - Wynonna.
Wynonna! - [Laughter.]
- It was Wynonna! That has nothing to do with Blake Shelton.
- It has everything to do with it! - It was Wynonna.
Wynonna! I need a glass of wine.
[Laughter.]
This is "The Voice" DALY: Welcome back to night one of the blind auditions.
BLAISE: My name's Blaise Raccuglia.
I'm 25 years old, and I'm from Austin, Texas.
I love the water.
It definitely recharges me just going from day-to-day life.
During the week, I'm a pool technician.
I service anywhere from 12 to 15 pools per day.
I'll get my machine ready, I'll vacuum the pool, check the chemicals.
But I know that there's more for my life.
[Humming.]
As a kid, I loved to sing, especially in my grandparents' church.
I started playing guitar.
I knew that music was really starting to become a part of my life.
I attended a leadership college because I knew that taking leadership courses was gonna translate into bigger things for my life.
And so I started my first ministry called Cliffside 360.
It started with just me and my guitar, and it has grown in 2 years to 100 people faithfully coming, young and old, from all across the city, come to worship God, and what better spot than on top of a mountain? Cliffside has done so much in my life, but I'm ready to see what's next.
As much as I enjoy my day-to-day job, I can't be cleaning pools forever.
I know my goal is to be a Christian artist, and being on this platform is pushing me in that direction.
I have never had an opportunity like this in my life.
I've literally been climbing a mountain to get my voice heard, and today's the day to reach the top.
You know I'd fall apart without you I don't know how you do what you do 'Cause everything that don't make sense about me Makes sense when I'm with you 'Cause I wanna wrap you up when I kiss your lips I wanna make you feel wanted Better than your fairy tales Better than your best dreams You're more than anything I need You're all I ever wanted All I ever wanted And I just wanna wrap you up when I kiss your lips I wanna make you feel wanted [Cheers and applause.]
Oh, crap.
You're kidding.
[Applause.]
KELLY: Oh! What's your name? How old are you? Where you from? My name is Blaise Raccuglia.
I'm 25 years old from the great city of Austin, Texas.
Aww, Texas! Aww.
The one thing that made me think about pushing the button was you have a very round tone.
It would just get pitchy in certain places, and I just felt the nerves a little bit.
BLAKE: There's a lot going through your mind and a lot happening up there, and it doesn't take much a lot of the times for us to just to go, "Eh.
" Like, it wasn't completely put together as tightly as it could be.
You're really close, dude.
- I mean, so close.
- Thank you.
Absolutely.
Try to just stay in your heart.
That'll really transcend the situation.
So super proud of you.
I think you did a great job.
And I And I'm excited for your future.
Thank y'all.
[Cheers and applause.]
Thank you, Blake.
ALICIA: Blaise really had a very beautiful voice.
But his nerves got the better of him.
I wish the best for him.
I almost blocked you.
[Laughs.]
Get your ass.
I got to get it! - DALY: Coming up - Glory, hallelujah DALY: the artists give it their all.
I never wanted nothin' more I just can't lose you Pain, you made a, you made me a believer DALY: And later, which one of our coaches gets blocked next? - No! - I don't know what you're talking about.
- C-K-E-D.
- Hey, go make me a drink! This is "The Voice" DALY: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
KELSEA: My name is Kelsea Johnson.
I'm 21 years old, and I'm from Newark, Delaware.
I've always sang, and when I was 6, I stood on the chair at my birthday party, and I told everybody to be quiet 'cause I'm gonna sing a song.
And all my family's just rooting for me.
Like, yay, yay.
They just supported me from day one.
My grandfather, Papa, brought the music into our family.
He was part of a mariachi band.
His love for music, I know that it just passed down into me.
In October 2015, Papa was diagnosed with liver cancer.
It was a lot.
[Sighs.]
Papa wanted me to pursue my singing career.
And I told him I made it to the blind auditions.
That's when he was doing really, really bad.
I started to second-guess if I even wanted to come because we didn't know what tomorrow held.
Even in the hospital, he kept saying, "Don't change your plans.
Just go.
" He knows that I was gonna do this, and now he can't see it.
[Sighs.]
I miss him so much.
I know that all of his support has led up to this, and I can finally show him and the rest of my family that all that you've instilled into me gave me the confidence to be able to do something like this.
I'm performing this for Papa.
[Exhales deeply.]
I found myself dreaming In silver and gold Like a scene from a movie That every broken heart knows We were walking on moonlight Yes! And you pulled me close Split second and you disappeared And then I was all alone I woke up in tears with you by my side A breath of relief And I realized Oh We're not promised tomorrow - So I'm gonna love you - Yes! Like I'm gonna lose you I'm gonna hold you like I'm saying goodbye Wherever we're standing, I won't take you for granted 'Cause we'll never know when When we'll run out of time I'm gonna love you, hey I just can't lose you I'm gonna hold you Like I'm saying goodbye - Yes! - [Cheers and applause.]
Yes! [Cheering.]
Congratulations.
- Yes! - Whoo! Wow.
- Congratulations.
- Wow.
Welcome to "The Voice.
" My ass needs a kicking for not turning around.
- That was really good.
- So good.
What is your name? Where you from? My name is Kelsea Johnson.
I'm 21 years old, and I'm from Newark, Delaware.
I'm so mad right now because Alicia Keys turned around.
[Laughter.]
I know! I should have blocked her.
That was a very wasted opportunity.
You should have done that.
That's not right.
Conspiring against me is wrong.
Kelsea, you are absolutely stunning from the way that you sing to the way that you look.
- We can do this.
- Thank you.
I don't have any doubts in my mind.
Thank you.
[Applause.]
Hands down, you could make a record right now and release it and have a career.
As your coach, I would love to focus on songs that really get you further in this competition, to have that air time, to reach as many people as you possibly 'Cause I didn't hear any head voice from you yet.
I didn't hear any intimacy yet, which I think you have.
- Yeah.
- That is gonna be the important thing just 'cause I've been you and I've had to navigate through a competition.
How do you stay on, but not give it all away so when you make that finale, you're like, "Just kidding.
I have this, too"? - Yeah.
[Laughs.]
- Well, of the three of us, there's one person who's done that 13 times.
- I'm literally the most experienced.
- Well, hold on, - I'd like to get a word or two in - Uh, that is a fact.
for one second 'cause y'all are like Alicia Keys.
You have a gift, and you have a reason why you were given that gift.
And, um, I have won the show.
I plan to win it again.
I'm a monster.
I'm a beast.
- I don't stop.
- I agree.
Right now, I'm in the studio with Chris Blue planning his plan.
- I am dedicated to what happens.
- Wow.
I believe we could win "The Voice" together.
- [Cheers and applause.]
- Thanks.
Okay, Kelsea.
Who do you pick as your coach? Come on.
[Audience shouting.]
Thank you guys so much for your kind words.
[Shouting continues.]
- I pick Alicia.
- Come on, baby! Of course.
- Of course! - Come on, Kelsea! I can't believe this! Oh, my gosh! Kelsea is a killer.
Not only does she have a super powerful, beautiful range, but she's beautiful.
She's like the total package, you know? - Yay, Kelsea! - See you later.
My life is changed forever.
[Laughs.]
I had to go with Alicia, though, 'cause the fact that she still works with Chris Blue, and I know that she's dedicated to this.
I could just feel it.
The last word.
I tried to get the last word.
They keep talking.
Right now, to me, Kelsea is the biggest threat on this show 'cause she's not on my team.
I should have blocked her.
But I'm not after you, Kelly.
I'm after him.
[Laughs.]
This is "The Voice" DALY: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
We're in L.
A.
I'm on my way to meet Drew Cole, who works as a bartender inside a movie theater right now, but he's hoping that "The Voice" will be the big break he needs.
DALY: So, Drew, what's it like to work at a bar inside a movie theater? I really enjoy it.
When I'm not behind the bar, it's music constantly.
- And where are you from? - Richfield, Connecticut.
What brought you to L.
A.
? I had a-a viral video on YouTube a few years ago.
I was serenading my friend's dog.
[Upbeat guitar music plays.]
[Music stops.]
You know, I was I was strumming the guitar, and then I would stop, and then she kind of shut her mouth.
[Music resumes.]
[Music stops.]
How many millions of views did that get? I think it's like up to like 14 million now.
I had so many people reaching out to me, one of which was a music producer here in Los Angeles.
He said, "Through this dog video, I found your other content.
I think you're great.
I'd love to have you out to write some songs.
" That ultimately inspired me to move out here full-time.
I'm sure you're a great bartender, but we certainly would like to see you - doing music full-time and - Yeah, me too.
- getting paid for it, so - Me too, man.
I hope this opportunity goes well - for you on the blind auditions.
- Yeah, man.
Thank you, man.
DREW: I took a big risk moving out here 'cause everyone is so good.
I've been here in L.
A.
for three years now.
You know, I play bars and small venues.
I take every gig I can get, but I haven't had that break yet.
This opportunity that I have here is a big one.
Coming to the "Voice" stage is next-level from what I've done in the past.
Growing up listening to Maroon 5, I'm right in that rock-pop vein.
So, I would love to work with Adam Levine, but Blake could really bring me a new perspective with country music.
I did not move to Los Angeles to be a bartender.
I moved here to be a rock star.
I'm gonna go out there and crush it.
[Exhales deeply.]
I smell sex and candy here Who's that lounging In my chair? - [Cheering.]
- And, yeah, well, who's that casting Devious stares In my direction? Mama, this surely is a dream Yeah, yeah Yeah, yeah Hangin' 'round Downtown by myself And I've had too much caffeine And I was thinkin' 'bout myself Then there she was In platform double suede And there she was Whoo! Like disco lemonade Well, I smell sex and candy here Yeah, well, who's that lounging In my chair? And, yeah, well, who's that casting Devious stares In my direction? Mama, this surely is a dream Yeah, yeah Mama, this surely is a dream Whoo Mama, this must be My dream, yeah [Cheers and applause.]
It's all me.
This is all me.
Congratulations.
- Wow! - Yay! Thank God for you.
Not only is that a voice, to me, that's the voice, - because because - Thank you.
when I turned around and I saw this - His necklace? - [Laughter.]
Ladies and gentlemen, Court Jester Blake Shelton.
[Laughter.]
I really hope that whatever happens over here doesn't deter you from keeping your eye on the prize because I don't know if you know I did a cover of that song - that was very similar to that.
- Yes, you did.
And I like to think that maybe it had something to do - with the cover that I did.
- Definitely.
I just love that he's complimenting you so much, and that's what's funny 'cause you're, like, complimenting yourself.
- 'Cause I do think y'all have similarities.
- No.
- [Laughter.]
- You're, like, "You are the most amazing thing that's ever happened!" [Applause.]
Like So, like, really? You, like, think you're the voice.
I-I-I only said [Laughter.]
- Yes! - I'm just kidding.
- Yes! - I know, I know, I know.
- I know.
- Whew! - Yes.
- Your hands are so big, Blake, that when you clap, it's like two pieces of meat slapping together.
[Laughter.]
- What's your name, man? - My name's Drew Cole.
- I'm 25 years old.
- Hey, Drew.
I know I'm a country artist, but I've won this show with all kinds of different artists because I try to take the focus off of me.
[Laughter.]
And I try to make it about the person that's standing up there.
Absolutely.
And the way you navigate your vocals - through that song was unbelievable.
- Thank you very much.
- I do see a cowboy hat on your head.
- ALICIA: That's true.
- It's kinda cowboy.
Kinda cowboy.
- I like that.
Yes, Blake, you used to have hair just like that, - so y'all got that - You did.
I used to have hair like that.
Look Ace Ventura is sitting down here, and I understand that's probably gonna be the way this ends up working out, but I'm just saying, I would love to be your coach, dude.
Thank you, Blake.
Thank you very much, man.
You sing the lights out without even really trying.
- Whoa.
- Immediately, you connect.
So, I see you as not potentially just the winner, - but way far beyond this competition.
- Hey.
- All right.
- [Cheers and applause.]
Thank you, Adam.
That That's a mind-blowing compliment.
Would you like to tell us who you might pick as your coach, Drew? I absolutely would like would like to tell you.
[Audience shouting.]
- Come on, Drew! - Drew, come on! Let's do this! Let's blaze a new path.
Come on! I pick I pick Adam.
[Cheers and applause.]
Don't let go.
Don't let go.
- ADAM: Drew is a revelation.
- Whoo! I think that we're cut from the same cloth.
It's gonna be really kind of cool working with that guy.
We're probably gonna win.
I hope you're cool with that.
Yeah, I'm stoked.
I can't wait.
- [Grunts.]
- [Cheering.]
Like, he went on and on about how amazing he was and, like, the voice, and he was like, "Like, you remind me of me.
" [Laughter.]
I was, like, "Damn!" I've been saved DALY: Stream tonight's blind audition songs - only on Apple Music - Your love is like a see saw, baby - DALY: or buy them on iTunes.
- Your love is like a see saw This is "The Voice" DALY: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
While the artists nervously wait the next performer of the night is ready to take the stage.
First things first I'ma say all the words inside my head I'm fired up Tired of the way that things have been Oh, ooh The way that things have been Oh, ooh I was broken from a young age Taking my sulking to the masses Writing my poems for the few That looked at me, took to me, shook to me, feeling me Singing from heartache to the pain Taking the message from the veins Speaking my lessons of the brain - Seeing the beauty through the - He's good.
Pain You made me a, you made me a believer Believer, yeah Pain You break me down, you build me up Believer Believer Last things last By the grace in the fire and the flames You're the face of the future The blood in my veins Oh, ooh The blood in my veins Pain - Come on! - Believer - Believer, yeah - [Cheers and applause.]
Pain You break me down, build me up Believer Believer I said, pain Don't let them bullets fly Oh, let them rain My love, my life, my drive, it came from Pain You made me a, made me a believer Believer - [Cheers and applause.]
- What are you doing? Wow! - Yes! - Yeah! I'm a believer! [Laughter.]
What is your name? My name is D.
R.
King.
Now, is that Doctor King, or just D.
R.
King? - It's D.
R.
King.
- Okay, okay.
- Not to be confused with the Reverend.
- Okay, okay.
I love that you brought your soul to that song.
- Killed that.
- It was so well-executed.
Your runs were sick.
I think you got way more - than we just heard.
- Oh, my God.
- Where did you start singing? - I grew up singing in a church.
- Yes.
- And then I went to college.
Then I was a schoolteacher.
- A schoolteacher? - Yes.
You know what? Come on.
That is Yeah! [Cheers and applause.]
Schoolteachers are underpaid.
My mama's in this audience.
She's retired now.
She was an amazing schoolteacher.
- It's a selfless job.
- Yeah, it is.
- It needs to be applauded.
Yes.
- It does.
So, yeah, I did that, and then I wasn't happy doing that, so I [Laughter.]
I love the kids.
I love the kids.
I really do.
I really do, but I wasn't fulfilled.
Yes.
I was just Look, that was perfect.
Aah! [Laughter.]
My biggest thing is believability.
You can't teach just something that's so innate because it's your gift, and so I think that we could do something fantastic together.
- [Applause.]
- Thank you.
You are super special, man, and I'm very, very glad that Kelly and Blake turned around because there is something magical that's gonna happen.
It's really, really, really hard to fill a room with your voice like that.
That's that special quality, and I think that you're gonna be happy with Kelly.
[Laughter.]
Man, I got to tell you, - your voice is explosive.
- Mm-hmm.
And I have a feeling that no matter whose version of whatever you sing, it's going to sound like D.
R.
King because you just have this natural gift.
Literally, I was feeling it right here, every note that you were singing.
It was, like, "What in the hell is this guy doing to me? - He's going to kill me!" - [Laughter.]
Dude, I'll be beside myself if you pick me as your coach, dude.
This would be a blast.
[Applause.]
D.
R.
! Come on! D.
R.
, who do you pick as your coach? [Audience shouting.]
- Who's he gonna pick? - Blake.
Um I pick Kelly.
Yes! Whoo! - I love you.
- Oh, my God.
You're so Soul is in many different genres of music, and I love that he took a song that we all know, but made it his own.
BOTH: Yay! And he sang the crap out of it.
- Whoo! - Nice job, D.
R.
! [Cheers and applause.]
I'm so proud of you.
Do you want a hug? KELLY: I keep going against Blake, and the fact that I beat him, I can't even explain how happy I am.
I can't explain to you how many times I will bring it up to Blake.
I should have jumped in on it - because I might have missed that.
- He's really good.
- DALY: Coming up - What's your name? Where you from? - All the crap.
- KELLY: He's gonna be, like, [As Blake.]
"She knows nothin' about country music.
" [As Blake.]
"Why you want to let her experiment on you?" - Rough crowd.
- I will call Bonnie Raitt.
Anyone you want me to call, I'm calling.
I'm just saying! I'm saying you look like an idiot.
- [Laughter.]
- DALY: And later the game-changing block leaves one coach - Oh, my God.
- out.
I don't know what you're talking about.
- I got screwed.
- That is so weird! - [Laughter.]
- I had a great time.
This is "The Voice" DALY: Welcome back to night one of the blind auditions.
Y'all ready? - [Laughter.]
Let's go do this.
- Oh, my God.
I love your Okay, okay.
You actually look better.
I mean, this is supposed to be cool, right? Adam Levine wears something like this.
Yours is better.
You look like a set piece from Broadway's "The Lion King.
" [Laughter.]
DALY: As our coaches get ready, let's meet the next artist.
- Do you guys know why we're here? - No.
MEAGAN: Daddy's gonna be on "The Voice.
" - Today? - Today.
I'm just proud of you, babe.
KALEB: My name's Kaleb Lee.
I'm originally from a small farm town in west Kentucky, and now I live in Ormond Beach, Florida.
I'm a father of three.
I know what this is like.
It's not easy, and and here you are trying to be a musician now, too.
I'm doing it for them.
I want them to know that pursuing dreams is important, and I want to lead by example.
Where'd you learn to be such a great dad? Wow.
Uh, my mom had me when she was 18 years old.
My biological father, I've never met.
Music tended to be one of those ways that I dealt with the idea that your father didn't want you.
And after I graduated college, I was trying to make music as a career.
It was a lot of time away from my wife, my newborn baby at the time.
And so I stepped away from music.
We had two biological daughters, but my wife and I talked about adoption when we first got married.
For me, it was an overwhelming sense that I had to do this because I couldn't keep that benefit from a child out there that didn't have an opportunity to have a father.
I remember we get a call, and the lady on the phone said, "We have a little boy.
He's 11 months old, and and here's his his his name was Johander.
" And for me, I, um At that moment, that was when I knew that this is exactly what I was supposed to do.
This was the This was my son.
BOTH: You are my sunshine My only sunshine You make me happy A month later, we found ourselves in Nicaragua.
I remember holding him for the first time, and he gave me a little kiss on the cheek.
And it's that moment, that reminder that I'm your father, you're my son, and we're gonna do this together.
BOTH: sunshine away Good job, buddy.
He had this beautiful gift, and I knew a huge reason that he had given it up was to provide for our family, and so after seven years, it's time that that he gets to use this this gift that he has, and everybody else gets to hear it, too.
I am so excited about doing music again with the right heart and with my family around.
I thought I had to have one or the other, and I realize now that I can have both.
- What if it's country? - Country.
It's gonna happen.
I don't want you to get your hopes up.
I grew up on all that '90s country.
Shut your face.
- I'm gonna win some of 'em.
- [Laughs.]
Oh, look.
There's Daddy.
I couldn't wait to turn 16 And drive all the boys around Foot on the gas and hands on the wheel Was all I could think about A little rust in the bed of that truck And a four-speed on the floor $500, it was mine, all mine And I never wanted nothin' more No, I never wanted nothin' more Well, I'm what I am and I'm what I'm not I'm sure happy with what I got I live to love, laugh a lot And that's all I need One Sunday, I listened to the preacher And I knew he was preaching to me I couldn't help it, I walked up front And I got down on my knees Right then and there, I swear I changed When I found the Lord Glory, hallelujah, good God Almighty I never wanted nothin' more No, I never wanted nothin' more Well, I'm what I am and I'm what I'm not I'm sure happy with what I got I live to love, laugh a lot And that's all I need Oh, I never wanted nothin' more [Cheers and applause.]
BLAKE: Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Tell us your name and where you're from.
My name's Kaleb Lee.
I'm 31 years old.
I live in Ormond Beach, Florida.
I love country music.
I know he's gonna be like, [As Blake.]
"She knows nothin' about country music.
" - ADAM: Yeah.
- "I live country music.
I breathe country music.
" [As Blake.]
"Kaleb, why you want to let her experiment on you.
" - Yeah.
- Rough crowd.
Why would you want to, now that he brings it up? That is a good point.
[Normal voice.]
I know enough about country music.
I would be a really good coach for you, I feel like.
[Normal voice.]
I agree.
- Hi, Kaleb.
- Hi, Blake.
[As Blake.]
"As the mayor of Country Town" [Laughter.]
"Population one.
" [Laughter.]
And I got to say, your voice and your style kind of reminds me of the Texas red-dirt-type country music.
That's so weird, 'cause I'm Texan, Kaleb.
I'm just saying.
Okay, keep going.
I had it right here, - and then you interrupted - But you said "Texas.
" - and now it's gone.
- Yes, good.
Good work, Kelly.
[Laughter.]
Our plan is working.
Will you please go make us a drink or something with that shirt on and get out of here for a second? My God, please.
Make me a margarita or a piña colada or something, man.
- You don't have your name tag on.
- Oh, I get it.
I get it.
- Oh, please.
- You're saying I look like a bartender.
Is that what the joke is? No, I'm saying you look like an idiot.
- [Laughter.]
- Oh! Go make us a drink.
Sorry about all this, Kaleb.
And I got to say, your voice would stand out on country radio because it's so gravelly and a little bit bluesy-sounding.
Have you ever made the trip up to Nashville? Have you ever gave it a shot? You know, I, uh I was in Nashville for a few years, songwriting, and I put it to the side, and I've been in the corporate world for the last seven years, taking care of my family.
My wife and my kids and my friends have continued to say, "Don't give it up," and I'm here because of them.
- That's great.
- Nice.
That's awesome.
[Applause.]
- That's your family.
- Is that your family? I want to bring my kids up.
Can I do that? - Yes! - Please do.
I got Graylon is seven, Lily is six, and Johander is our our little boy.
- Oh, he's so cute! - [Applause.]
Look at those boots! Your family's so beautiful.
That is the cutest little boy I've ever seen.
And he's, like, "This is bright and loud.
" KALEB: Yeah, right? So, I think you should just pretty much shock us all here.
And wouldn't it be great since I have the same ties You want to FaceTime Reba McEntire, Trisha Yearwood? Who you want to talk to? Kacey Musgraves? I know just the same people he's got.
- I'm just saying, I - That's passion.
- That is passion.
- Kaleb, don't listen to this.
- Oh, my God.
- Don't listen to this.
One more thing to say.
Don't you wanna stay here a little while? [Cheers and applause.]
Don't you wanna hold each other tight? And don't you wanna fall asleep with me tonight? - His wife is right there! - [Cheers and applause.]
Don't you wanna stay here a little while? I'm just saying.
It was good enough for Jason Aldean.
[Laughs.]
All right, by the power vested in me, I now am asking you to pick a coach.
[Audience shouting.]
So my kids watch the show, and they are huge fans of Blake.
- I pick Blake.
- All right! Kaleb there's just something about that guy.
I think he's special.
He's obviously a great talent.
Kelly may be my toughest competition when it comes to getting these country artists on my team.
So, nothing makes me happier than beating her.
Congratulations, man.
[Cheers and applause.]
Team Blake.
Team Kaleb.
I didn't know that was gonna happen.
[Laughter.]
[Cheers and applause.]
I really do want a couple country people 'cause I love that genre.
- Good job, man.
You work hard.
- I even sang! It's gonna be hard 'cause they all pick Blake.
I don't know if I'm ever gonna get a country person on my team.
[As Frankenstein's monster.]
Must choose Blake if want career.
Well, I got me a fine wife, I got me an ole fiddle When the sun's comin' up, I got cakes on the griddle Life ain't nothin' but a funny, funny riddle Thank God I'm a country boy Hey, go make me a drink! This is "The Voice" DALY: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
Look, stealing a country person from Blake is just not possible.
The only thing I can think of is the Block thing.
That's the only way we're gonna get a country person.
I'm gonna drop mine right on Blake.
That was too much space.
You got to be here.
[Laughs.]
I'm gonna drop mine right on Blake like this.
Th-Th-This! DALY: While our coaches head back to their chairs, let's see if the next artist can grab Alicia's attention.
MAKENZIE: My hometown is Wallingford, Kentucky.
It's super tiny.
Population of probably right under 3,000.
We have a post office.
That's about it.
My name's Makenzie Thomas.
I'm 19 years old.
Believe it or not, I grew up listening to R&B and black gospel.
Just last year, I started attending Morehead State University.
We have the black gospel ensemble.
It's very spiritual, and the lyrics always tell a story, and I really enjoy that.
Growing up, I've always been teased for being bigger.
Those mean kids that pretend to ask you to be their girlfriend and then turn around and say, "Yeah, right.
" It was really tough, but it made me stronger as a person.
When I'm performing, it just it sends every trouble and worry that I have to the wind.
I'm singing "Redbone" by Childish Gambino.
It's funky, it's R&B, but in a modern fashion.
It really allows for me to be creative.
My favorite part about this show is definitely the fact that the auditions are blind.
It takes a big weight off of your shoulders to know that people aren't going to judge you based off of what you look like.
So, I would love to be a representation for all the women that struggle with weight.
It's my biggest dream.
When I walk through those doors, I have to leave my all out there and reach my full potential.
- There she is.
- There she is.
Daylight I wake up feeling Like you won't play right I used to know But now it just don't feel right It made me put away my pride If you want it, yeah You can have it, you can have it If you need it We can make it, oh If you want it You can have it Oh, ooh But stay woke They be creepin' They gon' find you Gon' catch you sleepin', ooh Now, stay woke Yeah, they be creepin' Now don't you close your eyes Stay woke Like this! Right here! [Cheers and applause.]
Wow! Wow! What's your name? - Hi, I'm Makenzie Thomas.
- Wow, Makenzie.
There's so much magic in your voice.
However, it got a little bit away from you.
Honest to God, the good parts, Makenzie, were fantastic.
- Thank you.
- I'm just gonna be real.
You are so unexpected, which I think is fabulous about you.
- It's what's gonna make you stand out.
- Thank you.
You have such a vibe, such an energy.
And you're totally not what I expected to turn around to.
That's what makes this show incredible.
So, keep doing what you do 'cause you're onto something so good.
- Thank you so much.
- [Cheers and applause.]
Makenzie if she had a little more control, I think she would have gotten some turns.
I'm waiting for something special.
That part stinks.
God, you've been doing this for how long and having to see that? - 14 seasons.
- I know.
[Laughter.]
- Coming up - Blocked! DALY: the biggest block of the night.
- Oh, my God.
- Waah! - I know that's you! - You are full of [Laughs.]
This is "The Voice" DALY: Welcome back to the blind auditions.
Let's meet the next artist.
What's your name? Where you from? All the crap.
[Laughter.]
JUSTIN: My name is Justin Kilgore.
I'm 30 years old, and I'm originally from a little town in Texas called Buffalo.
[Train whistle blows.]
In Buffalo, there's about 1,200 people that live there.
The nearest shopping center was about an hour away.
[Wind chimes tinkling.]
[Cows lowing.]
I grew up on a farm that my family has owned for over 100 years, but I realized early on that that was definitely not gonna be the track for me.
[Indistinct shouting.]
Buffalo really celebrates their football team.
It is like "Friday Night Lights," but it wasn't what I wanted to do, so in high school, I decided to join the cheerleading team.
It wasn't the most popular decision for a guy.
Buffalo it's a pretty conservative place.
Had never been done before.
But I always knew I was a little bit different.
I always kind of knew that I liked guys even at a really young age, but I also knew that wasn't something that I could be open with, so I decided to keep that to myself.
Music really wasn't a part of the picture growing up, but during college, I started getting more interested in country music.
And then, after college, decided that I was gonna move to the closest music city, so I moved to Austin, Texas.
When I started writing original music, it was a start, but I was still hiding who I was.
I got some doors closed.
So, the past few years, I just stopped doing music altogether.
I've never been out of the closet when I did country music.
"The Voice" is the first opportunity that I have to be myself in my entire life.
I'm so proud of him for just taking that step forward.
And I hope this is his time to show everyone who he really is.
JUSTIN: I just never really thought, in my wildest dreams, did I think that I would get this far.
[Sighs.]
It's big for me because I've dreamed about this my whole life.
It's finally here.
When I walk through those doors, I'm finally gonna be me.
[Sighs.]
Tomorrow I'm gonna leave here I'm gonna let you go And walk away Like every day I said I would And tomorrow I'm gonna listen To that voice of reason Inside my head Telling me that we're no good But tonight I'm gonna give in one last time Rock you strong in these arms of mine Forget all the regrets That are bound to follow But tonight I'm gonna love you Like there's no Tomorrow Oh, baby, when we're good, you know we're great But there's too much bad for us to think That there's anything Worth trying to save We're like fire and gasoline I'm no good for you You're no good for me We only bring each other Tears and sorrow But tonight I'm gonna love you like there's no Tomorrow [Cheering.]
[Cheers and applause.]
KELLY: Blocked.
Blocked.
Blocked.
Blocked.
Blocked.
Blocked, blocked, blocked, blocked, blocked - ADAM: B - B BOTH: L O - C-K-E-D.
- Blocked! C-K-E-D.
- Boop! Boop-boop-boop-boop! - Blocked.
What's wrong? Waah! I know! I know that's you! I don't know what you're talking about.
I don't know what you're talking about, none of you.
- I got screwed.
- [Laughter.]
I got to just I want to bask in this glory.
[Laughter.]
[Applause.]
Did you make a snow angel in my "blocked"? I did use my only block for you 'cause I knew your voice was that special.
- Hurtful.
- You moved my spirit.
I definitely have a vision for you.
So, congratulations on a beautiful performance.
Thank you.
Thank you so much.
- Get away from me.
- Bye.
[Laughter.]
- I had a great time.
- [Laughter.]
Call me.
KELLY: How did you start singing? Like, what made you go for country music? Reba McEntire I was obsessed with her - when I was a little kid.
- That is so weird! [Laughter.]
Oh, my God, 'cause she's my mommy-in-law! I'm just saying! Do y'all know Reba McEntire? [Cheers and applause.]
I've done a duet with her.
We've had, like, a hit.
I can't wait for the GIF that's gonna exist of the dance that you just did over here.
I'm gonna send it to you all the time.
And it's gonna And they're gonna say, "Drop it like it's hot.
" [Cheers and applause.]
Her grandchildren are my children.
I'm just saying.
- I'll call her.
- I will call Reba McEntire, too.
- I will call Bonnie Raitt.
- I will call Meryl Streep.
I will call anybody.
Anyone you want me to call, I'm calling.
ALICIA: To me, it was definitely about how we can bring the most out of you, that beautiful voice that you just sang with, all that power that you have inside of you, all that soul that you feel with.
I would love to also help bring the best out of you.
You're so good that I won't even be mad - if you don't go with me.
- That's true.
Because one thing I know for sure that you can't do - is go with Blake.
- [Laughter.]
So, block for Blake is a victory for me.
[Laughter.]
Do whatever you want to do.
And that's all I'm You're amazing, dude.
You're awesome.
- [Cheers and applause.]
- Thank you so much.
This is gonna be pathetic if you do not pick - [Thud.]
- What? Oh, I heard that.
But I'm j That was the Lord saying, "Pick Kelly.
" [Laughter.]
[Cheers and applause.]
That was Jesus Christ himself.
Do not turn away.
Follow the light.
[Laughing.]
"Follow the light.
" I know country music, but I'm telling you You don't know anything about country music.
I-I know You are full of you-know-what.
Like, I live on a farm.
I got chickens.
I got honeybees.
I love I'm just saying that [Cheers and applause.]
that I am a country girl.
But, man, if you don't pick me Oh, my God.
I was like you.
I was a contestant.
That's my big goal.
It's not just to win this show.
It's to win longevity for an artist.
Um, hey, um, Kelly? Can I tell you something? Just the sheer amount of words that come out of your mouth Whatever, bro.
You do the same thing - when you're fighting.
- No, not as many words, though.
That is a lie from Satan's mouth.
- Um - I don't No! - W-What We're gonna - You sit on a throne of lies! - Let's settle that later.
- [Laughter.]
Justin, with, of course, the exception of Blake Shelton who is disqualified Amen.
[Laughter.]
Who do you pick as your coach? [Dramatic music plays.]
[Audience shouting.]
- What? - That would be pretty cool.
- That would be pretty cool.
- Come on, come on.
I pick Kelly Clarkson.
- Yes! - If you trust your rebel heart - I got a country artist! - Ride it into battle - I got a country artist! - Don't be afraid Take the road less traveled Yes! I blocked Blake.
I did what I've been waiting for.
Just the block alone gave me pleasure and satisfaction.
- Next time, baby.
- Yes! - I'm so excited! - Thank you! - I got jerseys! Yes! - Yes, jersey! I really feel like Justin has a lot of potential as a great country artist.
I hate you guys.
All three of you.
- Get away.
- Aw! Waah Hate.
"Hate" is the word I'm using to describe.
[As Blake.]
"Cry me a river!" I can't wait to whop your ass with a country singer.
I can't wait.
Maybe I can get you one of those Time Life CD sets that has - the greatest hits of country music in it - Geez.
Oh, my God.
so you can actually learn something about it.
Whatever.
I can't believe it.
Watch out DALY: America's favorite, "The Voice," is back and better than ever, as three-time Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum artist, and one of the biggest crossover music superstars of all time, Kelly Clarkson, becomes our newest coach.
KELLY: "The Voice" is an exciting opportunity to be able to be a part of these artists' careers, and I have a lot to offer because I was them.
I would really love to do for someone on this show what was done for me.
- Bye.
