There's definitely specific things I'm looking for.
I'm very confident about my team, and I know that these spots are gonna be filled by some more greatness.

My name is Stephanie Skipper.
I'm 33 years old.
I grew up in State College, Pennsylvania, but I'm currently living in Nashville, Tennessee.
I'm so grateful that I met my husband, Tim.
For a while, we were assigned to the same small label, and music is his dream, as well, so we had a little band together, and I really thought this is how I'm gonna use my voice.
We started to tour the country together, but last year, Tim was offered a really great job here in town, with some stability.
So we had to lay down the band.
It was really hard, because I thought that we were gonna do this together for the long haul.
And so, here I am.
I can't believe that I'm gonna pick it back up as a solo artist.
It's brave to see her actually take a step back into the arena.
I've seen a lot of the disappointment from pursuing music, so to see her lead with this bravery, I you know, I couldn't be prouder.
My husband is restoring my belief in myself.
Growing up, I was a really, really shy little girl.
My mom raised my brother and I by herself.
My dad just wasn't in the picture at all, and his absence probably had a lot to do with my shyness.
I kept to myself, total introvert, arts and crafts in my bedroom, and I would write stories.
I think I functioned out of this abandonment place.
There was a lot of, um a lot of years where I just wondered where he was.
[Sighs.]
It's such a tough thing.
I've thought a lot about my dad being at home and turning on NBC and there I am, on the TV, and what that might be like for him.
I hope he hears me sing and and there's something in him that says, "That's my little girl.
" For my blind audition, I'll be singing "Piece by Piece" by Kelly Clarkson.
I'm a little nervous singing a Kelly Clarkson song for Kelly Clarkson.
The song is Kelly's story about her dad not being in her life.
It's my story, too.

TISH: My name is Tish Haynes Keys.
I am 37 years old, and I am from St.
Louis, Missouri.
My father was a pastor, and my mom, she was a gospel singer.
She would sing and leave everybody shouting.
They would pass out on the floor.
I just looked up to her, and I knew I want to be like that.
I started singing with the baby choir, then I moved to the youth and young adult choir, just moving up.
But I was pregnant at 14.
I had my daughter at 15.
I was a freshman in high school and I carried a purse, a diaper bag, my book bag, and a breast-pump bag.
It was extra hard for me, because there were times I couldn't buy her clothes, I couldn't buy shoes.
When I wanted to go to the sleepovers, I was at home being a mother.
I couldn't go skating.
I couldn't go outside.
There was times where I just needed the mental break.
But being a mother, you have to set yourself aside.
My daughter made me grow up, and she made me want to do better for myself.
It's been a lesson and a blessin'.
I'm proud of you, and I know you'll do great.
Currently, I am working at United Way, and I sing on the side.
I started my own band in 2013.
We call it One Booty, One Sound, because I'm a little, you know If you can't keep the beat, follow Tish's butt.
And they would just follow me, and I'm like and I'll do my thing, and we jam.
We have a good time.
I love singing in St.
Louis, but I would love to take this to a higher level.
Getting close to 40, but it's never too late to still fulfill your dream.

She's bold and independent I was 20 years old when I met my wife, Jessica.
She'd already had a little boy.
His name is Braydon.
It wasn't long after that that we got married, and then Cash came along.
She's wild in the wicked wind I was writing full time and traveling around for gigs.
That put a lot of pressure on Jessica, because she was taking care of the boys and going to work, cleaning houses.
Jessica ended up starting her own cleaning business, so I'm incredibly proud of her branching out to do her own thing and work for herself.
She definitely kept us on track a-and kept myself on track to be able to pursue my musical dreams.

TEANA: Alicia Keys was one of my biggest motivations as a little kid, and when I was 10, I remember singing "If I Ain't Got You" at my school talent show.
People were surprised that, like, this little girl is singing this big song, and having people come up to me and tell me that, "You really can sing," it really was like, "Okay, I just might want to pursue this.
This feels really good.
" From the talent show, it just shot up, giving me opportunities to sing at ballparks and fairs, anything just to get me out there.
"The Voice" is a special opportunity for me, especially considering how old I am.
As a student, I'm always motivated to get the good grades, but now I am motivated to be a good singer and to learn about something that I want to do for the rest of my life.

Both of my parents work for NYPD, and my sister's a police officer.
I, too, was working in law enforcement for NYPD, as a police cadet.
I was offered the position to be a police officer, and I turned it down.
I said no, because I need my freedom as an artist.

There are a lot of ups and downs of being an artist in New York City.
You're basically going to auditions on a daily basis, and sometimes that means getting rejected on a daily basis.
But my family is super supportive I'm so proud of you, Miya.
and encouraged me to audition for "The Voice.

My name is Livia Faith, and I'm 17 years old and I'm from Stanton, Kentucky.
Stanton is a very small town, just a couple stop signs and stoplights and everything like that.
And I started singing when I started talking.
I was like 3 years old when I got my first karaoke machine, and I was pumped about it.
Every year in town, we have this thing called the Corn Festival.
Basically, the whole town comes out and goes.
I've been singing there since I was about 9.
I knew I wanted to make a career out of singing when I started performing.
I just loved it.
My mom is my best friend, and she's always been there for me, no matter what.
We have always been together.
- We've supported each other - I'm gonna cry, Mom.
and I will always support her.
We just lean on each other.
We do.
I'm a senior in high school, so I need a coach to turn around, because that would change everything for me.
There are not too many opportunities as a singer for me in Kentucky.

I just think you're different from everybody else.

JORDAN: My name's Jordan Kirkdorffer, I'm 28 years old, and I'm an accountant in Nashville, Tennessee.
Morning, Jordan.
Typically, I wear a button-down and jeans, but I like to throw on my cowboy boots from time to time, 'cause it's just something that makes me feel more like myself.
I get to work with spreadsheets, which I know a lot of people don't care for, but I absolutely love.
Cue the nerds [laughs.]

What's up? Even though I love my job as an accountant, music is my passion, and it's something that's always driven me since I was little.
I grew up in a small, little town called New Paris, Indiana, and it's a tiny, little farming community with a little over 1,000 people.
My house is surrounded by corn on three sides.
We got about 30,000 pigs, so it's a fairly big operation.
We have to move pigs from time to time, and I always like singing to them.
Ever since I was little, my parents would just throw me up on stage.
Meant to be My mom would put me in front of the microphone, and I'd have a bow tie on and my little mullet, 'cause it was the '90s.
You know, why would you not have a mullet? After high school, I came to Nashville and I went to Belmont University.
And Nashville is a great place to listen to music and to be around music, but I've never really, like, jumped out and done it myself, just 'cause I wasn't sure that I could actually do it.
I sing now, and I sing at church, and that, to me, is a great outlet, but to be able to do that on a big stage like "The Voice," that's just a crazy thought.
Putting my job on hold, coming here, is hard.
A chair turn today would really solidify that I am good enough to be here.
When I was a little kid, I always dreamed that something like this would happen to me, but now, with "The Voice," I have this opportunity, and music could maybe be a career for me.
And I can't hold back anything.
I have to leave it on the table.

One thing I will say is you will stand out on Adam's team.
I didn't turn because, honestly, I can't lose to him right now.
But I want more great vocalists to do something super, like, intimate and sweet and vulnerable.
That's the sexy part of country for me.
So, whoever you pick, I hope you do something bold, but also do something that's vulnerable.
He has won many, many times with people who are not country singers, so what does that mean? What that means is, Jordan, is that you can win being on my team, is what that means.

I traveled to West Los Angeles to catch up with the next artist, 44-year-old Shana Halligan.

What was life like growing up for you? Music's in my bones, and my dad was, um, one of the founding members of Blood, Sweat & Tears.
Really? He wrote a lot of hits "You've Made Me So Very Happy," "Spinning Wheel.
" And they played Woodstock.
They won Album of the Year.
They won tons of Grammys.
And, obviously, there was so much incredible music.
Spinning wheel spinning through SHANA: Growing up in a musical family, I feel I've been given, like, a gift.
After high school, I was in and out of production deals and record deals.
All of these experiences were amazing, but I still felt like I was chasing a sound.
When I was 30 years old, I started a band called Bitter: Sweet, a real jazz throwback, lots of big horns and strings and trip-hop and electronica.
We had music in a TV show, an advertisement, or a movie every week for like a couple of years.
When it ended, it was heartbreaking.
I felt very depressed.
And then I had my son, and I had a new purpose in my life.
Otis was born 2 1/2 years ago, and talk about a love you don't know until you have a child.
It Whoa.
[Laughs.]
It just smashed my heart open.
Ahh! [Laughs.]
He gave me a power within myself to make sure that I pursue my dreams.
I hope the coaches like my voice.
It's quite unique.
It's very sultry.
It sort of floats around wildly.

- Oh, my God! SHANA: I've been pursuing music for my entire life, and I am ready to be a solo artist, and "The Voice" is the most beautiful and perfect platform to be able to do that.

Gary he's a great music teacher in my opinion, personally.
GARY: At the church, I am an assistant choir director for Young Praise, our youth choir.
Y'all sound good.
ORION: Gary is inspiring to me, because he has taught me to just not be afraid to use my real voice.
GARY: Teaching the kids, it's one of my favorite things to do.
My goal with them is to inspire the same way that my grandmother inspired me.
And the Lord shall My grandmother was very instrumental in my younger years with music.
I was about 5 years old when I started messing around with my grandmother's karaoke machine.
She found me in the room, and she was like, "Hey.
" I told you not to fool with my karaoke machine.
So, if you're gonna fool around with my karaoke machine "you might as well sing in church.
" Currently, I work as an IT assistant.
Also, I sing Top 40 music with two cover bands and I sing a lot in the church.
But I think "The Voice" is one of the best opportunities to to catapult me to where I want to be.
For my blind audition, I'm singing "What's Going On" by Marvin Gaye.
What I tried to do was create moments within the song, slowing it up in the beginning and then giving you a groove towards the end to not only make you feel the song, but understand the message, as well.
"The Voice" holds a special place, because I get to show people at my job, the kids at my church that, "Hey, one of our own can go reach for it and can grab it, it's possible.
" Oh, my gosh.

MERCEDES: My mom found a bunch of videos of me singing my original songs as, like, a little girl.
I had, like, a passion to it.
I was driven to it.
So I was like, "I want to be singing.
" I don't know the other part.
I'm 16, and I'm currently a junior in high school.
I was born in Miami, but both my parents are from Venezuela.
They raised me with a lot of Hispanic culture, morals, and values.
The music was super important.
I always, like, take influence from Latin artists, especially their passion and their soul and their emotion, developing my style as a pop artist.
My parents had to leave everything when they came here.
They were seeking better opportunities.
My mom and my dad are definitely the reason I'm such a hardworking person, and I try to put so much effort into everything I do.
Outside of singing, I do a lot of extracurricular stuff at my school.
I've been teaching kids in arts academy, musical theater, and singing, not dancing, 'cause I can't dance.
Whose broad stripes and bright stars It would be my parents' American dream to see me succeed on "The Voice.
" And I want them to feel like their struggle was for something.
I want you to know that I'm really proud of you, that I love you.
MERCEDES: Hopefully, this audition will prove to my parents that this is something that'll hopefully take me somewhere in life, and it's not just gonna be, like, a one-time thing.
It'll be something that'll move through my life.
I've struggled so much with, um like, confidence and insecurities with other things, and singing is one of the only things I have, like, a lot of confidence with.
I love my voice, and I love the idea of being able to share that with so many people.

My name is Hannah Goebel, I'm 20 years old, and I'm from Omaha, Nebraska, but I live in Nashville.
Trying to make it here is definitely a struggle.
People here sing a lot of country.
There's honky-tonks everywhere.
So it's difficult being a soul/R&B singer.
But, you know, it's different, and I feel like I've been different my whole life.
[Cheers and applause.]
Growing up, I had a learning disability, and it made it really difficult to read, so I struggled a lot in school.
But music really helped me focus.
I wasn't able to read notes, but I listen by ear.
I'm pretty much known as the black sheep of my family 'cause I didn't go to college.
My dad is an orthopedic surgeon, and my mom is a retired nurse.
My brothers are both in the finance field.
It was a little overwhelming when I told them I didn't want to go to college and that I wanted to just sing.
But they were very supportive.
So it means the world to me to have them here and to show them that I can do this.
For my blind audition, I am singing "If I Ain't Got You" by Alicia Keys.
So when I found out that Alicia was coming back, I was, like, at a loss for words.
These coaches are incredible artists.
Kelly Clarkson's voice is huge, and she can belt like no other.
Adam is just so funky.
He always owns his songs when he sings.
And Blake could really knock down some doors for me in Nashville.
So, when I step on the stage, I'm gonna give it my all and just kill it.
