- (ALL CHEERING) Sodor Surprise Day was a day when friends surprised each other and made each other laugh.
At Tidmouth Sheds, Thomas and Charlie were busy surprising each other.
(CHUCKLES) My turn to make you laugh now, Charlie! - Boo! - (BOTH LAUGHING) That was a good one, Thomas! NARRATOR: But Gordon wasn't impressed.
Sodor Surprise Day is a silly day for silly engines.
No, it isn't, Gordon.
On Sodor Surprise Day, you get to make your friends laugh.
It's fun, isn't it, Charlie? Yes, it is.
- CHARLIE: Boo! - (BOTH LAUGHING) NARRATOR: Then the Fat Controller arrived.
Tonight there will be a party at Callan Castle.
There will be decorations and fireworks.
Thomas and Charlie were excited! Thomas, you will collect the party bunting from Maithwaite Station.
Gordon, you will collect the fireworks from the docks.
Harold is bringing them from the mainland.
Fizzling fireboxes! A party! With fireworks! NARRATOR: Gordon wasn't excited.
I am a very important engine with a very important job.
And Gordon huffed huffily away.
On the way to Maithwaite, Thomas puffed up to a junction.
I must find a way to surprise Gordon.
I'm sure I can make him laugh.
NARRATOR: So when the signal turned to green, Thomas didn't take the track to Maithwaite.
He puffed off to find Gordon.
Thomas puffed to the coal hopper.
- Rosie was there.
- (TOOTING) Then he heard a big engine steaming down the tracks.
THOMAS: Here comes Gordon! Now's my chance to make him laugh.
- With a huff and a puff - (TOOTING) Thomas blew his whistle as loud as he could.

- (ROSIE LAUGHS) Her trucks bumped and jumped into each other.
Soot went everywhere.
That was a fun surprise, Thomas! You made me laugh.
NARRATOR: But Gordon didn't laugh.
A little engine's toot toot isn't going to bother a big engine like me.
- And Gordon huffed and puffed away.
- (TOOTING) I must think of another way to make Gordon laugh.
Then he will think Sodor Surprise Day is fun.
NARRATOR: Thomas puffed up to a siding.
Whiff was there.
Whiff was busy shunting rubbish trucks to take to the rubbish dump.
Then another idea flew into Thomas's funnel.
Hello, Whiff.
I'm going to surprise Gordon to make him laugh.
Don't tell him where I am! (GIGGLES) What fun! I won't say anything! NARRATOR: Thomas waited.
His firebox fizzed with excitement.
I'm sure to make Gordon laugh.

But Whiff was surprised! His trucks bashed and crashed.
Rubbish flew everywhere! (CHUCKLES) That was a fun surprise, Thomas! You made me laugh.
I think your trick was silly.
And now you both look silly covered in rubbish! NARRATOR: And Gordon steamed away.
Bust my buffers.
I must surprise Gordon.
I must make him laugh! I have to get to the docks before Gordon does.
Thomas puffed quietly into the docks.
I need a place to hide.
Thomas spotted some empty trucks near Cranky.
His axles tingled! There's the perfect place! (THOMAS LAUGHS) - Gordon steamed into Brendam Docks.
- (TOOTING) Hello, Cranky.
Hello, Gordon.
Are you having fun on Sodor Surprise Day? No, I am not.
I just want to pick up the fireworks and get them to the castle on time.
Suit yourself! NARRATOR: Behind the trucks, Thomas watched.
I'll make Gordon laugh this time.
Here I go! (TOOTING) Gordon didn't laugh.
But Cranky was surprised.
(GASPS) Hoist my hook! Who's making that noise? Cranky dropped the crates of fireworks.
And with a crash and a bang - the crates broke open.
- Whoa! Fireworks fizzed and whizzed everywhere! Bust my buffers! I didn't want that to happen! Thomas! Your silly tricks didn't surprise me or make me laugh.
And now you've spoiled my Special.
I told you that Sodor Surprise Day was silly.
Now I don't like it at all! Then the Fat Controller arrived.
He was stern.
Thomas! You have caused confusion and delay.
There are no more fireworks for the party.
And you have not picked up the bunting.
If we don't have any decorations or any entertainment, we will have to cancel the party! Thomas felt terrible! I'm sorry, sir.
Thomas looked down at the firework mess and then up at Harold flying in the sky.
An idea popped in his pistons.
Please don't cancel the party, sir! I know how I can get Sodor Surprise Day back on track! Very well.
But first, Thomas, you must go to the washdown.
Every engine must look their best for the party.
Gordon will have to pick up your bunting.
You will have to work together to fix this mess.
There is not enough time for one engine to do it alone.
Gordon, I'm very sorry I spoiled your Special.
But I think I know how to fix it.
I hope so, Thomas.
I will collect the bunting because I am a reliable and important engine.
Thank you, Gordon! NARRATOR: Thomas raced to the washdown.
Whiff and Rosie were there.
Hello, Thomas.
Are you going to play another trick? Are you going to get us covered in rubbish and soot again? Not now, Whiff.
I have a party to save! After the washdown, Thomas puffed as fast as his pistons could pump.
I must find Harold.
He can help me save the day.
That night, Callan Castle looked wonderful and the party was about to begin.
Gordon was there with the Fat Controller.
Where is Thomas? The children are waiting for the party to begin.
Here I am, sir.
