Stay out of your head.
Stay in the moment. You know what to do.
[GROANS]
But you didn't do it.
And now you're on the mat.
Want to tell me why?
Because I was in my head?
Yes, you were.
[GRUNTS]
Full disclosure, it's
my favorite place to be.
Your technique is solid.
Your dedication,
- unquestionable.
- But I hesitated.
Kasie, you're full of spirit,
but you lack self-confidence.
Is my joyous spirit
enough to allow me to belt up?
Not until you get out of here
and trust here.
Oh, my stomach?
Your gut.
Trust your instincts.
"She who hesitates is lost."
Okay.
Elbows down.
Hands up.
Come on, Kasie.
Defend.
I see her.
Don't worry. It'll be quick.
- [CAR DOOR OPENS]
- [EXHALES] Okay.
- [CAR DOOR CLOSES]
- Okay.
Arm down. Now pull!
Watch the leg. Kasie.
Watch the leg.
Hey, move. Kasie.
Move! [GASPS]
♪
All right, let's try this again.
You know at some point,
we are gonna have
to stage an intervention.
Yeah, I don't think he can hear us.
Having some tech trouble, McGee?
Yes, everything in the building
is running slow,
and it is driving me crazy.
My computer seems fine. Torres?
Running like a dream.
Nah, impossible.
It's affecting all my devices.
It's got to be a network-wide slowdown.
Look at this.
- See that?
- That was slow?
Are you kidding?
It's lagging by at least
a fourth of a second.
Here,
I'll load it again.
Ah, I see what the problem is.
It's a you thing, McGee.
A what?
You know, like when something stinks
but you're the only one
that can smell it.
Or it's hot and you're
the only one who's cold.
See, it's like a you thing.
Not an us thing.
Anybody know why the computers
are running slow?
I've been trying to send
a Bandium alert and it's taking forever.
You see that? Not just a me thing.
[PHONES CHIMING]
Finally.
MCGEE: Looks like we have a body, but
All I'm getting is that
annoying spinning beach ball.
Yeah. Me too.
Yeah, it's 'cause the
computers are running slow.
See? It's an us thing now.
Those fourths of a second add up fast.
This guy must really love his cat.
Not his cat.
The neighbor said, uh,
this guy didn't live here.
The house is occupied by
a Lieutenant Mary Laredo.
Well, then she must love her cat.
Prince Charming.
That's his name.
just got off the phone
with Base Operations.
They said Laredo is deployed
to the USS Camden.
Headed towards the Gulf,
currently on radio silence.
So, who is this guy?
He kind of looks familiar.
No idea. They said Laredo lives alone.
Jimmy, you want to
oh, yeah, fingerprints. Right, on it.
He seems pretty beat up.
Like a prizefighter.
Yeah, but this wasn't a beating.
I mean, based on the location
of deep tissue swelling
and the urticaria,
I'd said that we're looking at an
acute anaphylactic angioedema.
Jimmy?
Uh, it was a deadly allergic reaction.
Where's an EpiPen when you need one?
I say we blame the cat.
Well, I won't know the allergen
trigger till I get him back to autopsy,
but I highly doubt that it was airborne.
Also, based on the amount
of the swelling here,
I doubt that this was an accident.
Yeah, you're not kidding about that.
MCGEE: Why, what'd you find?
It's what I didn't find.
Fingerprints. Anywhere.
The house was wiped?
Yeah, seems like somebody
was covering their tracks.
Got something, guys. Check it out.
There was blood here.
And looks like somebody
tried to clean it.
Not before the cat
walked right through it.
Well, there's no cuts or abrasions
on our victim here,
so it wasn't his blood.
It must belong to the killer.
Maybe Prince Charming
got a few good gouges
in before he ran
[BEEPS]
Jimmy, you okay?
Yeah, the, uh
fingerprint match just came back.
Guys
This is Otis Khatri.
NCIS Agent Khatri?
Otis from downstairs?
Afraid so.
Well, with the swelling,
I didn't recognize him.
I never met him.
What, uh, what can you tell me?
Oh, he was a good man.
Yeah, this is crazy.
Everyone loved Otis.
Yeah, well, apparently not everyone.
JIMMY: Hey, Kasie.
Sorry I'm late.
Took forever to get Otis processed.
I think we're all still in shock.
Uh, Kasie?
Hello? Hey, look, Kase,
if you're trying to prank me here,
all right, today is not the day.
Hey, this is Kasie.
I'm not here right now,
but leave a message
and I'll hit you back later.
[BEEP]
Kase, I'm in your lab right now.
I even remembered to bring
my controller, you know,
just like we planned.
Only thing missing is you.
Agent Otis Khatri
worked on the contingency response team.
He oversaw international humanitarian
support operations.
I know.
I recommended him.
In that job,
you see people at their lowest,
after natural disasters, wars.
But Otis was a natural fixer.
He always knew how to help.
He was a good agent.
I presume you've notified
his next of kin.
His sister is on her way in.
But she did tell us why Otis
was at Lieutenant Laredo's house.
Cat-sitting.
Turns out our best lead
is that runaway cat.
Well, courts generally prefer to
have their witnesses be human.
Well, we have reason to believe
that Prince Charming
may have the killer's DNA on his paws.
But you got to find him first.
I once tracked a caribou
in the tundra for 11 miles.
How hard could it be
to find a house cat?
You care to elaborate on why
you were in the tundra
following a caribou?
- Oh, how much time do you have?
- [PHONE CHIMES]
But, uh, it'll have to wait.
This is Jimmy.
Sounds like he's got something urgent.
Good, let's hope something more
promising than a runaway cat.
[DOORS SLIDE OPEN]
Jimmy, what's the emergency?
Kasie's missing.
- What?
- Her favorite video game,
Slayers, Spells and Starcraft 4
dropped last night, and
we had planned for a month to
play it at lunch, today's lunch,
- and she never shows up.
- Okay, slow down. She's
Kasie never flakes on people, all right?
And she never passes up an opportunity
to show off her badassery skills
as Kana-Hune.
Kana-who?
Hune. It's, uh, Kasie's
monster-slaying avatar,
it's this Kana-Hune.
Something bad has happened.
I can feel it.
I-I keep calling her cell phone
it keeps going straight to voice mail.
Jimmy, deep breath. Kasie's fine, okay?
[CHUCKLES]
You don't know that.
Actually, I do.
She requested a personal
health day this morning.
But why? Kasie's perfectly healthy.
Not really our business, is it?
But she would've told me if
Why-why didn't she tell me?
That is a good question,
but maybe the answer
isn't, uh you know,
our business either?
[SIGHS]
You're right. Yeah, sorry. Uh
Having Otis on my table here
is making me a bit paranoid.
I get it, I get it.
But, uh, let's just focus on the case
and keep your mind busy.
Right, uh, busy mind, good.
Uh, cause of death, as
I suspected, was anaphylaxis.
You figure out from what yet?
Sesame oil.
Which shouldn't come as a surprise.
Otis's file lists
a serious allergy to
sesame.
He obviously wasn't careful
about what he ate.
No, no, no. His bestie down
in the motor pool said that
Otis was constantly
checking ingredient labels.
Maybe he missed one.
Uh, even so, the levels
that were in his blood
this couldn't have been an accident.
So either it was
a deliberate suicide or
Someone dosed him.
The same someone who wiped down
every print in Laredo's house.
Whoever it was,
I can't imagine Otis
just eating something
without asking what was in it first.
It's called lying, Jimmy.
Yeah, but for him to trust
whoever gave it to him,
that means
Otis probably knew his killer.
I just don't get it.
Why would someone want
to kill my brother?
Well, we're, uh, we're hoping
that you can help us figure that out.
Can you tell us anything about his life
outside of work?
His work was his life.
Otis was so proud to be part of NCIS.
He joked that he was
a modern-day superhero.
Didn't need a cape or wings,
because he had a computer.
Mm. Laptop is mightier than the sword.
You must be McGeek.
[CHUCKLES]
Haven't heard that one in a while.
Yeah, maybe we should bring that back.
Oh, I-I'm sorry.
I think Otis meant it as a compliment.
- He only used it with me.
- Yeah.
Were you and your brother close?
Very.
E-Even though his work was classified,
he-he still found ways to tell me
about all the good he was doing.
But
But what?
This last week he didn't
want to talk about work.
Did he say why?
Something wasn't right.
I just thought that he was overworked.
But now
Can you give us a list
of people Otis was close to?
Maybe who knew he was cat-sitting.
Well, like I said, NCIS was Otis' life.
His co-workers were his closest friends.
All the people who would have
known he was cat-sitting
are probably in this building.
Hey, Jimmy, what are you doing here?
Oh, just helping out while Kasie's gone.
Ooh, you sure you're up for it?
Because, uh, there's a lot
of buttons in here.
Well, thanks to Abby's Lab for Dummies,
- piece of cake.
- Okay.
Parker said there was an update.
Yeah. I was able to pull a clue
off of Otis' laptop.
[CHUCKLES]
I hope you like cake.
[HARSH BEEP]
Oh, let's see.
Uh, that should have worked.
Okay, I okay, I see.
I see what I did wrong here.
I guess I should have pressed
- this button.
- [HARSH BEEPING]
Okay, Jimmy, less beeping and more cake.
That's an entirely new sound
I've never heard before.
- Okay, I'll come back.
- Okay, no, no, no, wait.
Hold on, hold on.
I-I've got it, I've got it.
Okay, uh, I wasn't able
to get into Otis'
user account here,
but I did pull a partial print
off the battery flap that
the killer forgot to wipe.
Okay, you've got my attention back.
So I enlarged the fingerprint.
Want to make sure I got a good image
before I put it into AFIS.
Like so.
[HARSH BEEPING]
[SCOFFS]
Kasie makes this look
so much easier than it is.
All right, Jimmy,
do you know what you're doing here?
Aah! There was a time when I did, Nick.
That time is now gone.
- What's going on?
- I didn't touch anything. Nothing.
What did you do to my babies?
Yeah, your babies don't like
Jimmy. He makes them cry.
[BEEPING STOPS]
[SIGHS]
I'm so glad you're back.
Okay.
Um, what are you doing in my lab?
All right, that's my cue to leave.
If you guys get a hit on those prints,
just give me a call.
Wait, prints? Whose prints?
- The killer's.
- Oh, right, yeah.
Duh. My bad.
And, uh, who's the victim?
Oh, Kase, you haven't heard?
It was Otis.
Otis? As in NCIS Otis?
He was murdered? When?
It was yesterday.
I mean, then entire
crime scene was wiped clean.
But I did manage to pull a partial print
from inside of his laptop.
That's what I was running
when you came in and I
Oh. That was fast.
Print must already be in the system.
Oh, you know what,
I-I got it from here, Jimmy.
Um, thank you so much for your help
This isn't what it looks like.
Good. Because what it looks like is that
your fingerprints are on
our murder victim's laptop.
Kasie, seriously, we don't
need to question you
in Interrogation.
I think you should.
Just tell us why your
fingerprints were on Otis' laptop.
Respectfully, if this was anyone else,
you would bring them into Interrogation
as a murder suspect.
- Did you kill Otis?
- Of course not.
Then why aren't you telling us
- why your fingerprints
- I will.
In Interrogation.
Please, we need to stick to the rule.
For Otis and for me.
And for you.
Oh, uh, Kase, that's where
we usually sit.
Oh, we can switch places later.
I'll be happy to answer
all of your questions
after you answer a few of mine.
Okay.
Who's interviewing who here?
And she has a notebook?
Special Agent Timothy McGee,
do you recall receiving
multiple shipments of electronic
equipment from China?
What is happening right now?
Wh-What does this have to do
with Otis' murder?
I will get to that.
A few months back you received
an IC distributor,
two GL microprocessors,
a temperature-sensing
Crystal oscillator.
Yeah. How'd you know all that?
Well, I'm asking the questions here.
No, actually, we're the ones
that are supposed to ask the questions.
What are the parts for, Agent McGee?
I ordered those parts to restore
an old Beary Smyles.
A Beary who?
It's a talking electronic bear
I wanted since I was six years old.
I recently found him at a swap meet.
But he was broken.
Needed a full electronic overhaul.
- Kasie, what
- Hold on.
So this list of parts
was to repair a talking bear?
Oh, not just any talking bear.
The talking bear.
Beary Smyles was the most expressive,
intelligent toy of the '80s.
That"s why it was a gadget
on my bucket list.
You know, McGee can be very cute.
Is it me, or do you just
kinda want to hug him right now?
I am officially clearing
Special Agent Timothy McGee,
which in turn closes cases number BX57,
concluding my investigation,
and clearing the entire
Major Case Response Team.
Kasie, who are you talking to?
Did you just say that
you were investigating us?
Oh, I was, but now I'm not.
Okay, we can switch places now.
Uh, j don't bother.
Kasie, uh, what the hell is going on?
There's a mole at NCIS.
Come again?
Funny story.
I was recruited by DCIS to do
an internal investigation
to find a suspected mole in NCIS,
which means I've actually
been investigating
all of the teams that I work with,
aka, um you.
[LAUGHS]
Oh, my God.
Oh, it feels so good to
finally say that out loud.
It took so long to clear you all.
How long has this been going on for?
Oh, for about two or three
You've been spying on us
for three weeks?
months.
Does Vance know about this?
Well, my handler said
that Director Vance
You got a handler?
VANCE: This is not acceptable.
If there is a mole in NCIS,
I should have been informed.
Director Vance, we both know
when it comes to mole hunting,
everyone is placed
on a need-to-know basis.
That's why I was meeting
with Ms. Hines off-site.
Is that a polite way of saying
that DCIS thought I was a suspect?
Everyone is a suspect.
Except Kasie?
We cleared Ms. Hines before we
tapped her as our inside operative.
With all due respect to Ms. Hines,
why choose her?
- Ouch.
- She's the one person who
works hands-on with almost
every agent in the building.
So she can conduct her investigation
without drawing suspicion.
Not to mention her superb skills
collecting forensic evidence.
And what did you find, Ms. Hines?
It looks like Agent Khatri
was attempting to bypass
internal security on the NCIS network.
For what purpose?
I haven't been able to figure it out.
I'm sorry.
Maybe if I had help
I could have moved more quickly.
You didn't give her a support team?
Given the sensitivity
of the investigation,
we thought it best she work alone.
VANCE: This is a huge assignment for
any agent to do by themselves,
let alone a forensic scientist.
Wasn't your call.
Well, it is now.
I have a dead agent
and nobody can tell me why.
Ms. Hines, you said
Parker's team has been cleared?
That's correct, Director.
Good. Then Agent Parker,
you can take over
the investigation from here.
I don't think that's warranted.
Or we can go to SECNAV and explain
why you put one of my people in danger
without proper backup.
I'm gonna need everything
you got on that mole.
Of course.
VANCE: And I'll make sure that Ms. Hines
updates you as information arises
after I have reviewed it.
In the meantime, you're with us.
Getting the support you should
have received from the start.
This is our case now.
Move fast. Find that mole.
Hey, guys. [SIGHS]
So I just went over Kasie's report,
and she is right.
Otis was definitely trying
to access our secure servers.
What? Any idea why?
It looks like he was trying to
transfer data out of the building.
So he was the mole.
I don't believe it.
Who was he working for?
Well, maybe himself.
Found this list in a dummy file
hidden on his laptop.
All big corporations in oil and tech.
Almost looks like a client list.
All those places would
pay big for the intel we have.
So Otis was an industrial spy?
That is a dangerous game to play.
Maybe that's what got him killed.
I don't buy it.
Otis was one of the good guys.
I'm a pro at judging character.
Really?
Mm, I don't know.
You couldn't tell that
Kasie was spying on us.
Oh, that's different, okay,
'cause Kasie was fighting the good fight
and she was being Kasie.
Well, I'm actually impressed
that she pulled it off.
Yeah. Going undercover is not easy.
Wait a minute.
Is that why she was making me play that
weird game of 20 questions
at the wine bar?
I can't believe she thought
I could actually be the mole.
Yeah, she was just doing her job.
She had to investigate everyone.
Hey, how much of our personal info
do you think she accessed?
Why, Tim?
You worried about something specific?
Mm, I got nothing to hide.
PARKER: Okay,
Kasie says that she has a lead
on what intel Otis was trying to steal.
So, uh, who's going down to the lab?
Not it.
Not trying to get my
fingerprints lifted before lunch.
And I'm still knee-deep
in my cat hunt, trying to track down
Prince Charming's microchip.
Looks like you're up.
Well, I would, uh,
I would love to, but actually, um
Can't think of anything?
Can't think of anything.
Meeting in the shadows
at night with secret agents?
Kasie, this is like
some Grisham novel stuff.
Uh, there's a lot less
action than you think.
I spent most of my time
plotting and scheming.
Mostly in my head, which
I'm supposed to be avoiding,
actually, so
Hey, you dig up any dirt on me?
Oh, don't be silly. You're clean
as a whistle.
I know, I know. But still, you had to
investigate me, right?
Um, actually, you weren't on the list.
- Oddly, that kind of hurts.
- [SIGHS]
Get in line. I've been
getting dirty looks all day.
If you want the truth,
going undercover is lonely.
I'll bet.
I don't know how Torres
did it for so long.
I hated keeping so many
secrets from my friends.
I actually took the personal day
so I could finish clearing
the team as soon as possible.
Hey, Kase, heard you got an update.
That's it? No questions?
No lectures about betrayal?
Well, actually, uh,
now that you mention it,
how deep did you go on your
personal record search?
Oh, deep.
Whatever you, uh, whatever you saw,
you gonna keep that confidential, right?
If it didn't have anything to
do with mole hunting,
it went in one eyeball
and out the other.
Great, great, okay.
Speaking of mole hunting,
I hear you have a lead on the
intel Otis was trying to steal?
Yes. Now that you were able
to unlock his laptop,
I was able to use it
to create a tracer program.
It'll search for anything Otis
tried to remove from our servers.
Hey,
if you promise not to
make my babies cry again,
I'll let you start it up.
Come on, Kase.
You can do it, Jimmy.
Yay.
See? It wasn't so hard.
[CHIMES]
Though that was a little quick.
Because there's no missing
intel from the NCIS servers.
Wait, so Otis wasn't stealing secrets?
Oh, he most definitely was.
Just not from us. Take a look.
- What is that?
- Uh, data.
Lots of it. All from outside sources.
Otis wasn't stealing from NCIS.
He was using the NCIS system
to steal from somebody else.
MCGEE: Well, the good news
is Otis didn't sell any NCIS intel.
And the bad news?
He was stealing all kinds
of proprietary intel
from corporate America.
And doing what with it?
Well, judging by
the data encryption he used,
I'd say Otis was running some kind of
dark web ransomware scheme.
So, basically, blah, blah and blah?
He was stealing people's data
and then demanding money
to give it back.
So, the client list Kasie found?
MCGEE: Probably
more like a victims list.
Why would Otis risk using
government servers, for a crime?
Probably needed the storage space
I mean, the guy stole
a huge amount of data.
A civilian server would choke on it.
And I'm guessing the data overload
is what caused ours to slow down.
So let's give the data back.
Well, we can't. At least
not until we find Otis'
encryption key to unlock it.
And Otis is dead.
Ten bucks says his killer
knows where the key is.
[MEOWS]
Now the killer's DNA is probably
still on Prince Charming's paws.
Any new leads on Grumpy Cat?
Still working on it.
Calling all the shelters I can,
but nothing yet.
All right, let's go with motive.
Who would want to see Otis dead?
I would say maybe one of these companies
decided to not pay the ransom.
MCGEE: According to an
unencrypted ledger I found,
every company on that list has
agreed to pay up except for one.
Stay Home Market, Inc.
MCGEE: It's a conglomerate
of worldwide delivery services,
including the home food delivery company
Home Stretch Eats.
Oh, I cannot survive
without Home Stretch eats.
Hey, isn't that the company
that has that loser CEO
that throws raves around the world?
Travis Baltoni.
Well, considering that, uh,
Prince Charming has been able
to evade our in-house
animal tracking expert
- I said I was still working on it.
- Okay. Okay.
Hopefully Mr. Baltoni
will be easier to find.
Oh, this is cool.
NCRS teleconference.
It's uh, it's "IS." Uh, Mr. Baltoni
Aw, call me Travis, man.
Unless that's illegal.
- Why would that be illegal?
- Are you at a party?
I'm on a yacht in Ibiza.
Here, everything is a party.
- Occupado.
- Try the lower deck.
I don't know if I should be
jealous or annoyed by this guy.
I know what you mean.
It's very confusing.
So, your company admitted to being hit
with a ransomware attack.
Let me cut to the chase.
I didn't kill your hacker.
Okay, but you hadn't
agreed to pay him, either,
So what was your plan?
Tasked my entire IT department
to find him.
Then, I was gonna kill him.
Okay. You do know you're talking
to federal agents, right?
A man has limits. Just this morning,
the guy tripled the ransom.
Wait, whose morning?
Ibiza afternoon, D.C. morning.
You feel me?
Tripling the price is lame
no matter the time zone.
Otis was dead this morning.
That means the new ransom demand
came in after he was killed.
Then who sent it?
Otis might have a partner.
Mr. Baltoni. Uh, sorry, Travis.
We would like access to your servers.
That way we can work together
to find that hacker,
hopefully retrieve your data.
I may look young and sound stupid,
but if NCIS could have
gotten back my data,
you already would have.
Well, we still can.
Too late. You were wrong.
I actually did pay the ransom,
right before you called.
Who'd you send the money to?
No way. I have a subsidiary
IPO coming up next week.
I'm not risking our data leak
going public.
That won't happen,
but we still need to know
who you sent the money to.
Oh, sounds like there's a line growing.
Good luck catching the bad guy. Peace.
Okay, yeah, definitely
more annoyed than jealous.
KASIE: And we're sure I'm the best
person to go undercover?
I mean, you or Parker could easily trace
the ransomware payment
in Stay Home Market's server.
Yeah, they would stick out like
sore thumbs at Stay Home Market.
- We're just too old.
- Yeah.
- No offense.
- None taken.
Now, Kasie, you've been working
on this thing for months.
The reality is you're better
equipped than any of us.
I don"t feel better equipped.
Oh! We have a warrant.
What if we just asked them
nicely who they paid, huh?
Their CEO made it very clear
he's not going to share any info.
Yeah, we go in through the front door,
they're gonna start tossing
records out the back.
Oh. So you're sending me in
through an air vent.
Well, it is the safest way
to get into the server room undetected.
TORRES: Parking lot,
utility tunnel, air vent,
server room.
Your comms should be working.
You want to give 'em a go?
Test, test,
this is Kasie Hines, aka Ellen Ripley,
last survivor of the Nostromo.
Well, luckily you aren't
fighting aliens in space.
- And now for your camera.
- Okay,
going undercover as me was hard enough,
but as a whole new person?
That's that's a whole new thing.
Well, hopefully
you don't run into anyone.
But you know I am not a good liar
or negotiator or swimmer,
for that matter.
Well, we promise there
will be no swimming.
All you need to do
is get to that central server
and find out who Baltoni
sent the ransom to.
And this time you're not working alone.
The whole team has your back.
Okay.
- Hey.
- You all hooked up?
Yep. I just, um
Hey, you know, ever since I
revealed my secret Bourne identity
You mean spied on us?
Um, you haven't been down to the lab.
Oh, I've just been stuck
looking for this stupid cat.
Don't tell Parker,
but tracking caribou
so much easier.
Okay.
But I hope it's not because you
feel like I betrayed you or something.
And if you do, I just
want to apologize. It was
Stop right there.
See? I knew it, I knew it.
That is totally your mad face.
No, this is my annoyed face.
And I'm making it because you have
absolutely nothing to apologize for.
Well, agree to disagree.
Kasie, if anything, I'm proud of you.
You took a flying leap
out of your comfort zone,
and that takes guts.
I know, but maybe if I had

Hey, guys. [SIGHS]
So I just went over Kasie's report,
and she is right.
Otis was definitely trying
to access our secure servers.
What? Any idea why?
It looks like he was trying to
transfer data out of the building.
So he was the mole.
I don't believe it.
Who was he working for?
Well, maybe himself.
Found this list in a dummy file
hidden on his laptop.
All big corporations in oil and tech.
Almost looks like a client list.
All those places would
pay big for the intel we have.
So Otis was an industrial spy?
That is a dangerous game to play.
Maybe that's what got him killed.
I don't buy it.

She had to investigate everyone.

do you think she accessed?
Why, Tim?
You worried about something specific?
Mm, I got nothing to hide.
PARKER: Okay,
Kasie says that she has a lead
on what intel Otis was trying to steal.
So, uh, who's going down to the lab?
Not it.
Not trying to get my
fingerprints lifted before lunch.

in my cat hunt, trying to track down
Prince Charming's microchip.

That's it? No questions?
No lectures about betrayal?

now that you mention it,
how deep did you go on your
personal record search?
Oh, deep.
Whatever you, uh, whatever you saw,
you gonna keep that confidential, right?
If it didn't have anything to
do with mole hunting,
it went in one eyeball
and out the other.
Great, great, okay.
Speaking of mole hunting,
I hear you have a lead on the
intel Otis was trying to steal?
Yes. Now that you were able
to unlock his laptop,
I was able to use it
to create a tracer program.
It'll search for anything Otis
tried to remove from our servers.
Hey,
if you promise not to
make my babies cry again,
I'll let you start it up.
Come on, Kase.
You can do it, Jimmy.
Yay.
See? It wasn't so hard.
[CHIMES]
Though that was a little quick.
Because there's no missing
intel from the NCIS servers.
Wait, so Otis wasn't stealing secrets?
Oh, he most definitely was.
Just not from us. Take a look.
- What is that?
- Uh, data.
Lots of it. All from outside sources.
Otis wasn't stealing from NCIS.
He was using the NCIS system
to steal from somebody else.
MCGEE: Well, the good news
is Otis didn't sell any NCIS intel.
And the bad news?
He was stealing all kinds
of proprietary intel
from corporate America.
And doing what with it?
Well, judging by
the data encryption he used,
I'd say Otis was running some kind of
dark web ransomware scheme.
So, basically, blah, blah and blah?
He was stealing people's data
and then demanding money
to give it back.
So, the client list Kasie found?
MCGEE: Probably
more like a victims list.
Why would Otis risk using
government servers, for a crime?
Probably needed the storage space
I mean, the guy stole
a huge amount of data.
A civilian server would choke on it.
And I'm guessing the data overload
is what caused ours to slow down.
So let's give the data back.
Well, we can't. At least
not until we find Otis'
encryption key to unlock it.
And Otis is dead.
