NCIS s22e08 Episode Script

Out of Control

1
It's a dishwasher, not an art exhibit.
Is it really that hard
to put plates in one row
and bowls in another? Really?
Being extremely anal is hard, yes.
It's not a magic machine, Mason.
You have to angle the dishes for
the water to actually hit them.
Well, maybe if you rinsed your dishes
before you put them in the dishwasher
Oh, do not change the subject.
It's the same subject!
[TIRES SQUEALING]
What the hell are you doing?!
It wasn't me. The wheel just
ASHLEY:
Mason, Mason, the stop sign!
Turn the car off!
MASON: I can't!
Baby, what's going on?
I don't know. The brakes aren't working.
We got to get out of here.
What the hell is going on?
The door won't open!
We'll have to break a window.
- Come on!
- It won't open!
[YELLS]
MASON: Oh, my God.
ASHLEY: Help! Help!
MASON: Help!
What the hell is happening?
ASHLEY: Somebody, help us!
[SCREAMS] Come on!
- MASON: Somebody!
- ASHLEY: Help! Help us!
- MASON: Somebody!
- ASHLEY: Help us!
[SCREAMS]

[CAMERA CLICKING]
McGee, let it be known.
You've taken photos
two crime scenes in a row.
I'll take the next one.
I thought you liked blood spatter.
Nobody likes blood spatter.
Abby liked blood splatter.
Oh, what do we have here?
- No idea.
- What happened?
No clue.
So, what brought us here?
We're looking for Navy
Lieutenant Mason Winslow.
He's missing, and according
to the local sheriff,
his wife ran barefoot into a
diner half a mile from here,
and I quote, "covered in blood
and spouting some crazy story
about a car driving itself."
Cars will do that now.
But either way, this warehouse is
the last place that she saw her husband.
Sorry I'm late.
I blew right through my alarm.
Won't happen again.
So, who do we have here?
No idea.
What happened?
No clue.
But by the looks of the blood spatter,
I'm guessing this guy and the lieutenant
got into a hell of a fight.
See, Nick, that is a gift you got.
We do a perimeter search?
Uh, I did.
Wife's bare footprints
lead into those woods,
and the lieutenant's head
in the opposite direction.
Yeah, could've been leading
them away from his wife.
Or maybe they only wanted him.
Wanted him for what?
ASHLEY [CRYING]:
I don't know what they wanted.
After the car drove itself
into this warehouse, these
people came out of nowhere,
and then they pulled us out the car.
And Mason told me to run,
but I didn't want to
'cause we'd just gotten
into this fight about
the stupid dishwasher.
Take your time.
[ASHLEY SOBBING]
Mason kept yelling, "Run," so I did.
I k-kicked off my heels, and I just ran.
[SOBBING]
I have no idea how I got to the diner.
Panic will do that.
Someone called 911, but by
the time the police got there,
Mason was gone.
Who are these people?
How did they get control
of the car like that?
Unfortunately, any car with lane assist
that's connected to the Internet
is fair game these days.
What do they want with Mason?
Whatever it is, we'll find out.
Okay.
What do you think?
I think it might be time to go
back to the horse and buggy.
[SIGHS] Right?
But first, we need to figure out
why our lieutenant seems to have
a target on his back.
I'll talk to his C.O.,
find out what exactly
he does for the Navy.
[PHONE RINGING]
[SIGHS]
But first, I will talk to McGee.
Hey, what's up?
Oh, wow.
Okay.

- [ECHOING]:
- Parker.
Hello?
[FINGERS SNAP] Earth to Parker.
[CHUCKLES SOFTLY]
Sorry, sorry. Guess I, uh, I zoned out.
Uh, you more than zoned out.
I almost had to send out a search party.
Are you okay?
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, it's nothing.
Like I said, I haven't
been sleeping, and, uh,
I'm not really a fan
of hospitals these days,
ever since, you know,
I almost bled to death in one.
Please don't remind me.
Um, McGee have anything good?
Uh, actually, yeah. Maybe motive.
So, it turns out the
lieutenant's family is wealthy.
And I mean super wealthy. And get this.
They've had kidnapping
scares in the past.
[ECHOING]: And McGee is
checking with the FBI right now,
see if, uh, the FBI

NARRATOR [OVER TV]: As the
world evolves, so do our energy needs.
Pinnacle Power Corporation.
Powering tomorrow, today.
Catchy tag.
They are a massive
multinational oil conglomerate.
Lieutenant Winslow's grandfather
started the company.
- So he's, like, rich.
- Oh, he's, like, really rich.
- Like, really, really
- Scrooge McDuck. Got it.
Lieutenant's father is
running the company now,
and here's where things get interesting.
Pinnacle used to buy
their oil from Russia
but then cut ties
when Russia invaded Ukraine.
I'm sure the Russians didn't like that.
Yeah, one in particular.
MCGEE: Sergei Dustinov.
Pinnacle's liaison to
the Russian government.
And now that Sergei's oil money
has dried up,
the FBI thinks that
he's gone back to kidnapping.
Apparently, that's his specialty
back in the motherland.
We know where he is?
Uh, no, but we have a BOLO out now.
Yeah, and the FBI is setting
up shop with Winslow's family
in case they get a ransom call.
FBI?
- Ransom?
- Oh, I'm sor I'm sorry.
Um, no, I was just thinking,
um, you two should, uh,
check into this Sergei guy's background.
I've got autopsy.
Knight, head over to the Winslows'
and wait with the FBI
for that ransom call.
- They're gonna love that.
- If they give you any trouble,
I'll have Sweeney smooth it over.
Oh, right, yeah, your special
new friend, uh, Sweeney.
I think it's adorable.
[ELEVATOR BELL DINGS]
I think you're in the wrong elevator.
This one's going to autopsy.
Oh.
Guess I'll just have
to ride down there with you.
- I know what you're doing.
- What am I doing?
So you're not doing anything?
I have no idea
what you're talking about.
But now that you mention it
[ELEVATOR STOPS]
Are you okay?
You know, someday
those buttons are gonna break
and someone is gonna be
in a world of hurt.
You saw something, didn't you?
At the hospital.
Parker, you have to talk to somebody,
especially if you're seeing ghosts.
Let's not overstate things.
Let's not understate them, either.
Look, like I said,
hospitals still give me
the heebie-jeebies.
And when someone has the heebie-jeebies,
sometimes they see stuff
out of the corner of their eye.
That's literally how
the heebie-jeebies work.
That's also how
post-traumatic stress works.
Parker, if that is the case,
you cannot ignore this.
I appreciate the concern,
but I'm fine, okay?
[SIGHS]
I promise you.
It's not a problem.
[PARKER GRUNTS]
Oops.
I'm taking arrows
from all directions today.
I was going through some old boxes
down in Dr. Mallard's office.
I found this board.
He once told me he was quite
the dartist back in his day,
so I thought I'd hang it up
in his honor. [CHUCKLES]
"Dartist" is a real word, by the way.
News to me.
But maybe find a new place to hang it.
Yeah, I realize that, in hindsight,
by the door, not the best idea.
I take it from all this free time,
you're done with the bad guy's autopsy?
Done, and Kasie got a hit on our DNA.
Our suspect's name is Thomas Hayes,
though according to
his rap sheet, on the street,
- he goes by the name
- Mad Dog?
Pretty much your
garden-variety thug-for-hire.
Cause of death: blunt force
trauma to the cranium,
most likely caused by a metal pipe
that we found next to his cranium.
At least Lieutenant Winslow
didn't go down without a fight.
And then some. [CHUCKLES]
Significant trauma
on Mad Dog's knuckles here.
Lieutenant may have won the war
but definitely took
quite the beating himself.
The kind that would require
medical attention?
That's what I'm thinking.
Especially since Mad Dog here
had a little help.
Kasie found traces of several
nootropic drugs in his system.
- Nootropic, as in?
- As in smart drugs.
Yes. Designed to improve
your memory, focus,
usually used by high-end executives
and tech bros looking for an edge.
And apparently by Mad Dog.
Yeah, it's weird.
I would have expected
opiates or a stimulant.
Maybe he was studying
for his real estate license.
[PHONE BUZZING]
[SIGHS]
Yeah, Nick, go ahead.
When?
Oh, so much for a ransom.
Yeah, I'll meet you in the lobby.
That didn't sound good.
Lieutenant Winslow is dead.
The body was found about
a half mile from the warehouse.
Where exactly?
Just dumped at the side of the road.
By some farm.
McGee is notifying his wife.
Hi.
You stalking me?
Uh, stalking is a crime.
I was on my way to meet the FBI,
but I figured I should join you instead.
- [ENGINE STARTS]
- Especially now
that there's not gonna be
any kind of ransom call.
TORRES: Well,
it doesn't make a lot of sense.
Uh, the kidnapper wouldn't
kill their meal ticket.
Unless they didn't mean to?
According to the lieutenant's wife,
he fought back pretty hard.
So, maybe he fought back so hard
that the kidnappers
accidentally killed him?
TORRES [FADING]: Hmm. Well,
McGee has a has a lead on Sergei.

Parker?
- [HORNS HONKING]
- Yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo!
[TIRES SQUEALING]
Yo, what was that?
You just blew through the stop sign.
Still think it's not a problem?
Really?
Well, yeah, that is interesting.
- What's interesting?
- [SCREAMS]
- Sorry.
- [PANTING]
Next time, whistle a happy tune.
Oh, my God. Hello. Hi. Yes.
No, no, thank you for the heads-up,
and just send over the
car as soon as you can.
Okay.
[GROANS] Your text said it was urgent.
I thought it was, and now
I'm just happy to be alive.
Well, I just hit a dead end with Sergei.
And he was our best lead for,
uh, lieutenant's kidnapper.
"Was"?
Yeah. He, uh, threw himself
off a bridge last month.
Police said it was a suicide.
Eh, more like
a Russian retirement special.
Well, now our, uh,
kidnapper suspect list
just dropped to zero.
What if I told you
I didn't think the lieutenant's
disappearance was a kidnapping?
I would say, "Go on."
Well, I was doing some research
as to how the hacker may have
taken control of his vehicle,
and it turns out
this is not the first time
something like this has happened.
- Really?
- There were three incidences
in the tristate area
just this past month alone.
All involve drivers losing
control of their vehicle,
then being driven to
a remote location and killed.
Well, all except for this one.
This car was hit by a truck
on its way to Murderland.
I think we're looking at some kind of
on-demand carjacking ring.
Only, instead of attacking
someone in the street
and taking their car
The bad guys are remote-control
driving their victims
to a place with no witnesses.
Then leaving no witnesses.
[SIGHS] The Internet really
has made everything easier.
- The great Dr. Grace.
- Hmm.
You got here fast.
Good timing with that phone call.
I was headed to this side of town.
For another patient?
No, not a patient.
A late lunch in about
an hour.
So
what's up?
Again, thanks for the house call.
C-Can I get you anything?
No, thank you. I'm good.
Right. Good.
You seem tense.
Do I?
And your call sounded urgent.
I don't I don't
really think it's urgent.
And frankly, I've been expecting this
since your mandatory
psych eval last year,
after your near-death experience
on that ship.
Wow, we're just gonna jump in, huh?
Okay.
Expecting what?
I got the sense that there was
more to your experience
than you were willing to talk about.
Or m-maybe even conscious of.
It can take months, sometimes
years to process a traumatic event.
GIRL [WHISPERS]: Aldie.
So what was it?
What part of that experience
did you leave out of your psych eval?
Well, I guess I-I didn't mean
to leave it out,
but I I just didn't know
how to explain it at the time.
Explain what exactly?
I saw something, Grace.
Someone.
Who?
Her name is Lily.
Gonna need more than that.
Who's Lily?
I just thought she was
a mirage, you know?
Part of this fever dream
that I was having on the ship
because of the blood loss and the pain.
And now?
Now, lately
she's showing up everywhere.
Without the trauma.
And again, who is she?
She's just a kid.
Little girl, nine or ten.
Blonde,
pigtails, yellow sweater.
No, Parker, to you.
I'm asking: Who is Lily to you?
That's the problem. I have no idea.
Well, now, that is a problem.
OPERATOR [OVER COMPUTER]: 911. Please
state the nature of your emergency.
WOMAN: Uh, um, I m-my
car just-just started driving itself.
OPERATOR: Your car just what, ma'am?
WOMAN: It-It's pulling
a full Christine on me.
I-I can't control it.
OPERATOR: A full what?
WOMAN: That movie Christine.
No, no, no!
[CRASH]
Hmm.
And that's her car?
Yep, some, uh, truck driver
ran a red light
and killed her
before she could be murdered.
Hopefully, he didn't kill
the car's computer, too.
But why is a remote-control
carjacker killing anyone?
Couldn't he just drive the
car away with no one in it?
Probably has to be running for
the hacker jacker to take over.
But hopefully, I can pull
something off the telematics
that will lead us back to him.
Or her. My parents taught me to
believe that anyone could kill.
You know, uh, I miss stealing a car
in the good old days.
Pick the lock and hot-wire
the electrical system.
Ah, you steal a lot of cars
back in the day?
I'm just saying, the Internet
ruined a lot of things.
Ooh, word around motor pool is that
Parker almost ruined you yesterday?
Yeah, that was weird, man.
He completely zoned out
behind the wheel.
Oh, hold that thought.
Okay, I found some rogue code
in the system.
You can actually see here
where the hacker gained access
to the vehicle
via the infotainment system.
Not really, but okay.
Okay, looks like he was broadcasting
from a portable hot spot.
Ooh, and lookee, lookee.
Here's its IMEI number.
- Mm, Kasie?
- Yeah?
- Pretend I'm Gibbs.
- Oh.
Right.
I got a lead.
So, the hot spot that was
used to take over this car
is registered to
Sally Clark.
All right. You got an address?
Actually, I do.
And given that name and address,
it might not be the
lead I thought it was.
So, we can't rule out
long-lost friend just yet,
but you seem sure that Lily is
not some kind of distant relative.
I even asked my dad
about Lilys in our past,
and he came up empty.
Hmm.
You said she wasn't familiar to
you, and yet you knew her name.
That's the thing. I just
I'd never seen her before,
but the name Lily
just came blurting out of me
like it was buried deep
in my frontal lobe.
The hippocampus.
That's where the overall experience
of memory is said to be stored.
I don't care where she's stored, Grace.
I just want her out.
We'll get there.
But let's talk more
about this fever dream.
Did anyone else
show up on this ship besides Lily?
Aldie!
Yeah. There was my mother, oddly enough.
She was holding a couple of bakery boxes
and telling me to mind the rope.
The rope?
The one that Knight tied
around her ankle
before she went underwater.
I was holding the other end.
And Mom warned you not to let go?
Well, it was her
or, um, some inner voice.
I don't know. Either way, it woke me up.
Tell me more about your mom.
- Why?
- Well, why not?
You talk about your dad.
Yeah, but that's just
There's not much to tell.
She died when I was young,
a few years after she moved out.
Moved out?
Why did she do that?
- They fought a lot.
- That's it?
What did your dad tell you?
That she went out for pastries
one day and never came back.
What's it matter?
Now, look, I'm no shrink,
but whatever happened to me on that ship
clearly dislodged some
repressed memory of this Lily,
and I'd sure as hell
like to un-repress her.
We can always talk about the past,
but I find that digging
for repressed memories
too often results in
creating false memories.
Not if we land on the right one.
Yeah, who's to say what's right?
I-If I were to so much as
mention alien abduction,
your subconscious might
attach Lily to that scenario,
and we'd fix nothing.
- I'd be willing to take that chance.
- I wouldn't.
But what if it makes her go away?
[ALARM BEEPS]
I promise we'll discuss this
in our next session,
but I'm late already.
But we just got started here.
And a super solid start it was,
but we were hardly
going to solve any mysteries
in one session.
Then how soon is the next time?
My plate is a little full for tomorrow,
but first thing, 8:00 a.m., my office?
First thing. Sounds great.
And we can discuss how to move forward
without having to look back.
Sure, whatever works.
Oh, and let's plan on talking about
what really happened with your mother.
Have a good day.
And be kind to yourself.
[DOOR OPENS]
[DOOR CLOSES]
[INDISTINCT ANNOUNCEMENT OVER P.A.]
Yeah, that's my old hot spot.
Don't admit to anything.
Okay, that's not my old hot spot.
Well, we know it's yours.
It's still registered to you.
Great, then we done here?
'Cause I'm in the middle of 3D printing
a shiv out of toothpaste.
No, actually, we're-we're not done here.
MCGEE: Someone's
been using your old hot spot
to hack into people's cars.
Don't admit to anything.
If you say that one more
time, I'm gonna smack you.
Career public defender.
Hey, I chose to dedicate my life
to people who can't aff
Whatever.
There's nothing to admit to.
I haven't seen a computer
since my arraignment.
Just sitting here the last
two months awaiting trial.
And yet it's your account
that's being used in a crime.
Don't admit to any
It was a prepaid hot spot.
Someone obviously has taken it over.
Any idea who?
[SMACKS LIPS]
I take that as a yes.
You can take that however you want.
Snitches get stitches.
Oh, that's right.
You did work for the Lopez drug cartel.
Accused of hacking
two Coast Guard satellites
to help them eavesdrop on patrols.
Don't believe everything you read.
Maybe our hacker is one of your
former coworkers in the cartel.
You heard my client:
stitches get snitches.
It's "snitches get stitches."
You're a lawyer. How have you
not heard that before?
Oh, and when are you gonna
ask them for a deal already?
Huh?
A deal.
They have a crime.
I might have a suspect for them.
You know, lawyer stuff.
Do you have something for them?
My client is correct.
Any cooperation with law enforcement
will be predicated on a deal
that includes reduced sentencing
for the crimes
with which she stands accused.
Damn. Way to finally represent.
But you're kidding about
the shiv, right?
I was.
KNIGHT: I don't think
Sally likes her lawyer.
It's a good thing you can't 3D
print a shiv from toothpaste.
Sally's lawyer didn't seem to know that.
You know what? If I was
ever accused of something,
I'd want her as my lawyer.
Yeah, she is pretty spicy.
But does she really know
who's behind it?
She definitely thinks she does.
Well, if we're gonna make
a deal with Vance,
she's got to give us something first.
[CAR ALARM CHIRPS] All right, I'll, uh,
see if I can set something up
with the D.A.,
see what we can get from her.
[ALARM CHIRPS]
Oh, you locked it again.
- [ALARM CHIRPING]
- Sorry about that.
Hmm.
That wasn't me.
[ENGINE STARTS]
Someone's hacked the car.
I thought the car had to be
running to be hacked.
I guess the computers
in these older models,
it's different I don't know.
[TIRES SQUEALING]
Hey, hey, what the hell?
[BOTH PANTING]
It's not a typo, Pete.
BOLO is out on our own car.
That is right.
TORRES: Nobody stole our car, Serena.
At least not in person.
Remotely-controlled cars aren't
coming, Eddie. They're here.
TORRES: Well, I'm glad this
is funny to you.
All right, let's see how funny it is
when it happens to one
of your cars, okay?
Okay, buh-bye.
Let me guess. FBI? DEA?
MCGEE: And MPD.
All finding the BOLO
on our own car quite hilarious.
Which it kind of is funny,
but they don't have
to rub it in like that.
How'd it go with Dr. Grace?
Fine.
Anyway, I know about
the car driving away.
What about this, uh, hacker
that you talked to beforehand?
Well, Sally Clark seemed to think that
her previous employers
in the Lopez cartel
are now using her remote-driving
tech to steal cars.
She give up any names?
Not without a deal.
KNIGHT: We figure they wanted
our car's computer to find out
where we've been to see what we know.
MCGEE: I was able to
block access to our system,
but whoever's got the car now
has disabled the GPS.
And Kasie's up in MTAC now
working with the DoD to find
the car via satellite.
Okay, let me check on her. [SIGHS]
But I should hit the coffee cart first.
Anybody want anything?
Triple-shot dirty chai.
Two-pump vanilla latte.
Upside-down caramel macchiato.
Are those even coffees?
I'll remember.
And I can help you carry 'em.
No, no, no.
I got it. Just stay with the
team and off my elevator.
I'll be quick.
Mm. What do you guys think?
[ELEVATOR BELL DINGS]
I think someone really doesn't
want to talk about therapy.
[SIGHS]
All right, need, uh, one
triple-pump, upside-down chai,
machi-something drip.
That's not a thing, Agent Parker.
You're telling me, Audrey.
All right, just give me, uh,
four black coffees to go.
Uh, make that five.
Least you could do is
buy me a cup of coffee
for blowing off our 8:00 a.m.
I'm sorry about that, but work
got crazy since yesterday and
Yeah, I figured it was work-related.
Though, for a moment,
I thought maybe that
I scared you off with my parting
comment about your mother.
What? No.
Yeah, okay.
I'll admit that, uh
that threw me a little bit,
but especially since I told you
everything there is to tell.
Okay, but humor me a sec.
Something you said yesterday
got me thinking about
your belief in angels.
Angels?
When did I tell you that?
Uh, your initial psych eval.
Really? 'Cause I'm-I'm pretty
sure I didn't mention angels
to anyone but Knight
while we were on the ship.
Well, then let me check my notes.
Has Jess been talking to you?
Well, of course not. I mean, yes.
Agent Knight had her own psych
eval after the ship incident,
but she had her own trauma
to talk about.
Uh-huh.
Okay, regardless of where I heard it,
your reliance on angels got me
thinking about your fever dream.
Oh, wait, wait. No, I see
where you're going here.
Y-You think that maybe Lily is
is some kind of angel to me?
No. Not Lily.
Your mother.
What?
In the dream.
She's who woke you up,
telling you to mind the rope.
What is it with you and my mother?
It's not me, Parker.
Well, it sure isn't me.
I'm not some cliché with mommy issues.
There's nothing cliché about it.
I came to talk to you
about Lily, not my mother,
who was no angel, by the way.
So, if you don't want to talk
about what I want to talk about,
then I'll just find
somebody else to talk to.
Don't forget your coffee, Agent Parker.
[EXHALES SHARPLY]
Man, I still can't get over it.
- As you've already said, Matty.
- At least ten times.
For NCIS to have its own vehicle
stolen right out from under its nose?
I mean, how cringe is that?
It's pretty cringe, Matty.
Yes, but you, as a satellite tech,
can understand the technology used.
Which only makes it cringier. [CHUCKLES]
PARKER: Hey, Matty!
Why don't you save your cringes
and just find our car already, okay?
Uh, yes, sir.
I've been searching the city's
traffic camera system.
Yeah, well, search harder.
You okay, Agent Parker?
Oh, I'm doing great, Jimmy. Just great.
Oh. Well, that's great.
Yeah. Hey, you know what I do
when I am feeling as
great as Agent Parker?
What's that, Kase?
I go and I talk to Dr. Grace.
[GASPS] Oh, yeah.
We've all been to her
at one time or another.
She's the best.
Whether you're feeling great or not.
You know, Dr. Grace
has helped me through
more rough times than just about anyone.
Excuse me, but do we know if
there were any other devices in the car?
A walkie, a cell phone,
- uh, a Fitbit?
- Do we?
Well, uh, McGee and Knight said no,
but we can double-check with them.
You know, another thing
about Dr. Grace
Oh, God, I don't believe this.
is that she really knows how to
help you get out of your own way.
Oh, yeah, sometimes your foot is nailed
to the floor and you don't even realize.
You're just going around in circles.
And Dr. Grace, she's the best
at just pulling that nail
right out of there, you know?
- Oh, yeah. Okay.
- [POPS TONGUE]
Okay, I'll go back. All right?
And, you, find our car.
Talk about being nailed to the floor.
And by both feet.
And who was that guy?
[SIGHS]
Oh, good, you're still here.
I had a no-show, remember?
Again, sorry about that.
And for what I said before.
I admit my mother may be a sore subject,
but I'm hardly alone, am I?
Clichés are clichés for a reason.
- [SIGHS]:
- Yeah.
Like "misery loves company"?
I wasn't suggesting
you have such issues,
but not wanting
to talk about any subject
clearly points to something.
Well, I promise to deal with
that something eventually.
But for now, can we just deal with this?
Lily.
I'd appreciate it.
Is she here now? Do you see her?
No. Uh, that's
that's not how it works.
Not that I know how it works
exactly, or-or why.
Then let's first try to figure that out.
And not by digging
for repressed memories
but by keeping track
of the precise conditions
that accompany her appearances.
Conditions?
If Lily should appear again,
take note of your mood,
your stress level, um,
what's happening around you.
I can tell you right now
my stress level after I see her.
Let's try to resist that, too.
Now that you're seeing her
again, don't be alarmed.
Maybe even welcome her.
Seriously?
Yes, developing a comfort level
of sorts might be the key
to unlocking the reasons
why she appears.
[SIGHS] I don't know, Doc.
This, uh, this is starting
to get a little woo-woo.
A little woo never hurt anybody.
Maybe not in the movies.
It might sound that way,
but I'm not telling you
to invite Lily for a beer.
Maybe just don't steer off
the road next time you see her,
and she will provide you
with some answers.
Is it too late to talk about my mother?
[LAUGHS]
You picked your poison.
[PHONE RINGING, BUZZING]
[SIGHS]
Yeah, Kasie.
Hey, we found our stolen sedan.
Already being towed
to the evidence garage.
Jimmy's meeting it at the gate now.
All right, I'm on my way. I got to go.
And what are you gonna do?
Find out who stole our car.
After that. About Lily, if you see her.
I'll try not to freak out.
- Good, for starters.
- Okay, thanks, Grace.
Good luck.
[ELEVATOR BELL DINGS]
[SIGHS]
- Okay, so, uh, about the car.
- It's not here?
Uh, no, it's here.
Apparently, it was
at a repo lot in Fairfax.
A repo lot?
Yeah, along with three other cars?
I think the black one's ours.
Making the other three?
The other remotely stolen cars.
KNIGHT: This is not what a
car thief does with stolen cars.
This is what someone does who
wants those cars to disappear.
Which means this case has
nothing to do with stealing cars.
So, first, we had kidnappers
who, for some reason,
killed their meal ticket.
And now we have car thieves
who, for some reason, crush their cars.
Which, for some reason,
is a lot of trouble to go to
just to hide evidence.
So, if the bad guys
clearly weren't after
the cars themselves, what
else could they be after?
I wish I had an answer for that,
but I might have something better.
It's got to be better than what we have.
The floor is yours, Kase.
Okay, so despite the crushing,
I was still able to reach part
of our car's computer system,
which was surprisingly intact.
And functional?
Functional enough to help me gain access
to the port our hacker used
to control our vehicle.
Mm, can you pretend I'm Gibbs again?
Yes. Uh, I was able
to reverse engineer the hack
in order to gain access
to the hacker's computer.
Nice. Nice.
And where is that computer now?
Apparently on the move.
That blinking icon is
our hacker's computer,
which I'm assuming is a laptop,
since it's driving through D.C.
at this very moment.
- Way to go, Kase.
- That's not far from here.
All right, let's scoop him up.
Wait, hold on, I'm not finished.
Can you tell us on the way?
Well, I could, but,
you know, why be on our way
when we could bring the hacker to us?
Ooh, I'm liking where this is going.
So, using the hacker's laptop
as a conduit, I accessed the
system of the car carrying it,
along with its front camera.
So, we're seeing what the driver's
seeing?
Not that he knows it,
nor can he do anything about it
when we take over navigation of his car.
You've outdone yourself, Kasie.
Oh, and I'm still not finished.
- There's more?
- For you there is, McGee.
Since you are our best gamer
Uh, only gamer.
Not the only gamer thank you, Nick
but since McGee is
slightly better than me,
I thought he could do the honors.
Well, the honor is all mine.
What am I doing exactly?
You are doing great, McGee.
I'm not gonna lie,
this is a serious rush.
Nothing like giving this guy
a taste of his own medicine.
Got him pulling up in just a second.
What is the opposite of joyride?
Help! Get me out of here!
Somebody, help me!
I'd say we're looking at it.
Let me out!
Get me out of here!
Don't just stand there!
Open this door and let me out of here.
McGee, don't we know this guy?
Oh, yeah, we definitely know this guy.
Open this door and let me out now!
Knight and McGee were surprised.
They didn't think this lawyer guy
was smart enough to be involved.
Speaking of smart
All right, lay it on me.
Is it "Dr. Grace is so smart"
or maybe how smart I am
to go see Dr. Grace?
Mm, more like, um, "How smart is Kasie?"
Oh. Right. Kasie.
You think I was gonna bring up
our near miss yesterday?
Did I ever apologize?
No, but you were, uh
distracted.
Distracted. Right.
By what, I don't know.
Well, Nick, uh, if you don't mind
Oh, I don't really need to know.
As long as you're okay
and you're figuring it out, we're cool.
Parker, you need my help
I got your back.
CLIFF: Do you have any idea the level
of terror you just inflicted
upon a law-abiding citizen?
Well, you're the lawyer.
Why don't you tell us?
[SCOFFS] Not until my lawyer gets here.
Okay, then, while we wait,
how about we discuss why
we brought you in here?
Please. I'd love to know.
You used your client's
hacking technology
to not only steal our car
that's a federal offense
And also super embarrassing.
yeah, but even worse,
you stole more cars
that led to the deaths of three
actual law-abiding citizens.
And that makes you a murderer, Cliff.
What?
No, wait, I didn't kill anybody.
It was them.
"Them"?
Okay, look, I admit I may have
passed on my client's technology
to a third party,
but nobody was supposed to get hurt.
What third party, Cliff?
Bad guys, you know.
Career crooks, hired muscle.
They were only supposed to use the tech
to steal the cars,
but accidents happen.
Cliff, we found the cars.
This has nothing to do
with stealing them.
So why don't you tell us
what's really going on?
Or you can take the fall for everything.
Okay, I just
I want a deal first.
Notice how quickly you ask for a deal
when it's your butt on the line.
If you expect me to give her up,
I need some guarantees in return.
BOTH: Her?
BOTH: Her?
Did I say "her"? I meant
Can I get a deal or not?
Oh, no. No need for the chair.
I can get out of here
just fine on my own.
- Don't be so sure.
- Agents.
What do you mean? What are
you what are you doing here?
Shouldn't your first question
be about your late husband?
Yeah, like, "Did you catch his killer?"
Well, no, of course. [STAMMERS]
Did you? I mean, please
tell me you found him.
We sure did.
Turns out he's a lawyer who claims
he was just helping some unnamed
third party remotely steal cars.
What? That's crazy.
Whoever heard of such a thing?
Your boyfriend, for one.
Excuse me?
Make that your former boyfriend,
who, turns out, is also a lawyer.
The very same lawyer. Imagine that.
What are you talking about?
You wanted out of your marriage, Ashley,
but divorce wasn't an option for you.
We found your prenup.
The only way you were ever
gonna get even a dollar was
if your husband died first.
So you and your boyfriend,
Cliff the lawyer, came up with
a plan to get rid of your hubby.
KNIGHT: Fake a kidnapping,
which you luckily escaped from,
only to have your husband turn up dead.
And then you threw in a few
more kills to make us think
you were the victims of some
modern-day carjacking ring.
No. Nobody was supposed to get hurt.
Funny, that's what Cliff said.
Cliff.
Let me tell you about Cliff.
Yeah, Cliff had plenty to say about you.
Almost like you two were
made for each other.
[SIGHS]
I guess you're gonna need
this lift after all.
Well, just when you think
you've seen it all.
You get Ashley and Cliff.
They could've saved us all a lot
of time by driving off of one.
A cliff? Like his name?
Maybe just lay off the car-related puns
for a while, okay?
Yeah, okay, thank you.
[SIGHS]: Ay.
Good news and bad news.
All right, give me the good one first.
Well, our, uh, sedan's
annual inspection is done.
Waiting for us
down in the service garage.
Great. What's the bad news?
Mechanics are offering to disable
the lane assist
and smart cruise control,
so that the car doesn't
drive itself away on us.
Okay. So they're laughing at us, too?
- Loudly.
- [LAUGHS]
Well, then let's go get our car
and see if they're still laughing.
Um, I'll be right down, guys.
PARKER: All right, Jess, let's hear it.
I've been avoiding you all day.
[SIGHS]
What do you want to know? Just ask away.
Actually, I'm done asking.
I just wanted to let you know that
I'm glad that you went
to go see Dr. Grace,
and whatever the two of you
talk about is your business.
I appreciate that.
Didn't you, uh
didn't you go to see Dr. Grace, too?
Yeah. Before I left for Pendleton.
Mandatory psych eval. Why?
Grace
somehow knew about our little
angel talk on the ship,
and I didn't I-I don't recall
telling her about it.
I might have mentioned that.
- You did?
- Among other things.
While I was talking about my stuff.
Is that a problem?
No. No.
Just, uh
just good to know
I'm not completely crazy.
Well, I mean, no crazier
than the rest of us.
Anyway, uh
thanks again.
"Again"? For what?
For giving me the push.
[SIGHS]

Lily?
Wait!
